Nicaraguans warned against coup
Last Updated: Friday, 9 September 2005, 14:04 GMT 15:04 UK

US warns Nicaraguans against coup

Enrique Bolanos won a landslide election victory in 2001
Nicaragua faces isolation if opposition forces depose President Enrique Bolanos, a top US diplomat has warned.

The assistant secretary of state for the Americas accused some elements of "behaving very, very irresponsibly".

Roger Noriega's warning comes amid a mounting crisis, which has seen Mr Bolanos locked in a struggle with his opponents in congress and the courts.

Sandinistas and members of Mr Bolanos Liberal Party are trying to strip the president of his powers.

1. We are in no position to warn anybody not to do anything.
Hello Washington? You cannot even protect your own people from a flood. You can stop with the imperialist bullshit now. By the way Nicaragua is also facing a famine due to rats. I guess the Bush family has moved in to the region.

6. Surprisingly, Noriega is right this time...
Bolaños is an ass, but the pact Alemán and Ortega made is way too dangerous... Alemán got out of jail thanks to it, they stripped down most powers of the President, and now they want to remove him from office even though most Nicaraguans oppose this idea (sounds like Republicans, huh?)...
