MANCHESTER - State Rep. Peter Sullivan, D-Manchester, who has announced his intention to run for New Hampshire’s 1st District congressional seat next year, voiced his support Wednesday for a congressional investigation into the federal response to Hurricane Katrina.
"The tragedy in Louisiana and Mississippi has laid bare severe shortcomings in our ability to respond to catastrophe," said Sullivan. "Anyone who cares about America’s ability to respond to a disaster, be it natural or manmade, should support a thorough investigation into the failed response by FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security to Hurricane Katrina."

Sullivan also called for the immediate firing of Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.
"Director Brown and Secretary Chertoff have given incompetence a bad name," he said. "Their planning was nonexistent. Their response to the crisis was lethargic. Their attempt to shirk responsibility is revolting."
