Inquiry agents face US vetting
Inquiry agents face US vetting
From James Bone in New York
Times

THE US Congress is to investigate the investigators in the Oil-for-Food scandal.

The House of Representatives’ International Relations Committee plans to investigate the inquiry headed by Paul Volcker as part of a report on the United Nations, a spokesman told The Times yesterday.

Samuel Stratman, a spokesman for Henry Hyde, the committee’s Republican chairman, said: “It’s going to cover both the scandal and the UN response, including the actions of the Independent Inquiry Committee.”

The Volcker inquiry delivered a blistering criticism of the UN over its handling of the Oil-for-Food programme and called for urgent and wide-ranging reform of the organisation.

2. The right wing hasn't gotten enough political mileage out of this yet.
I think the wing nuts want to use this to help kill the UN but so far it hasn't had the impact that they want so they have to drag it out a bit longer to give the gas bags on talk radio something more to talk about instead of Katrina and NOLA.
