THE US Congress is to investigate the investigators in the Oil-for-Food scandal.
The House of Representatives’ International Relations Committee plans to investigate the inquiry headed by Paul Volcker as part of a report on the United Nations, a spokesman told The Times yesterday.
Samuel Stratman, a spokesman for Henry Hyde, the committee’s Republican chairman, said: “It’s going to cover both the scandal and the UN response, including the actions of the Independent Inquiry Committee.”
The Volcker inquiry delivered a blistering criticism of the UN over its handling of the Oil-for-Food programme and called for urgent and wide-ranging reform of the organisation.
