Tropical storm Ophelia strengthens into hurricane again
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 10:19 AM by cal04
Tropical storm Ophelia strengthens into hurricane again; northeast-bound

Tropical storm Ophelia strengthened into a hurricane again Saturday as it charted a course that could lead it to the Atlantic coast.

Forecasters have urged residents from northern Florida to the Carolinas to keep close watch on Ophelia's path over the next few days. A hurricane watch was issued from north of the Savannah River in South Carolina to Cape Lookout in North Carolina, meaning hurricane-force winds of at least 119 kilometres an hour were possible by Sunday evening.

At 11 a.m. EDT, Ophelia had top sustained winds of 129 km/h and was moving northeast near five km/h. It was expected to stay on that track through the day.

2. response
Im in SC and was awoken to a warning on TV about this storm. It seems like the response is going to be over the top because everyone's worried about looking like another brownie or jerkoff.

6. thanks for the info.
I have a relative in So. Carolina. She said that the last year she received no help after the hurricane and she had insurance too. She's back there now and I am sure she has evacuated already.

*whew*!

:kick:

4. Damn, not only will SC have a lethally incompetent FEMA head
to deal with, he will also be hung-over from his margaritas.

5. Remember, last year
Ole Jebbie said "Why me? What did I do to deserve this?"

After several hurricanestore through his state.

Cliss to Jeb: Better go buy some bottled water.

9. Hot water caused by global warming will just jump each & every
hurricane up a notch. Then Halliburton will get money to rebuild. There should be a law that says "externalities to third parties caused by corporate policy and corporate regulation making cannot be repaired on fixed by giving contracts to this same corporation".

10. My personal Ophelia Prognosis
is: Ophelia will by covered exceedingly by a still hurricane-hysteric media. It (she) will be far weaker than Katrina, strip some roofs, fell some trees.

FEMA will be in place beforehand, both federal and state emergency agencies will react the way they're supposed to, some of their personnel will even be withdrawn from LA etc. to be ready for Ophelia.

Everybody will praise FEMA and put the blame for the NO disaster on Nagin and Blanco.

People who have suffered the great personal loss of a score of tiles on their roofs will be reimbursed generously by some hurricane relief fund.

A lot of tax money will be given to the usual companies, just in case.

Bush's edict about what wages have to be paid will be extended to the stricken states.

Bush and FEMA will have proven they can handle disasters after all, that the blame game is nothing but a partisan game, and Bush's approval ratings will rise.

And, last but not least, Ophelia will disprove once and for all that stupid conspiracy theory that global warming was coresponsible for Katrina: Because if there's another hurricane right now, that only shows that hurricanes happen a lot anyway.

13. I thought about applying for a job at Rove's
after I had written that.

But I'm afraid they've figured it out already all by themselves and don't need me anymore.
