US ( peace ) activist arrested after visa revoked
Sunday, September 11, 2005. 1:02pm (AEST)
US activist arrested after visa revoked

"An American peace activist may be deported because he is allegedly a threat to national security.

Liz Thompson from the Anti-Deportation Alliance says Scott Parkin, who is a teacher by profession, was arrested in Melbourne yesterday.

Ms Thompson says Mr Parkin was told his visa was being revoked on the grounds of character, after he allegedly received an adverse security assessment.

Federal police have confirmed an American man was arrested on the orders of the Immigration Department (DIMIA) and is in custody.
DIMIA has declined to comment"

12. yes: that Scott Parkin..a non-violent protest organiser who was
arrested by our seceret police ASIO after declining to attend an "interview". He was helping teach and organise non-violent protest tactics during the Sydney Opera House shin-dig of global CEOs chaired by Steve Forbes.

ASIO say he is a "security risk"..no doubt on info supplied by the FBI or CIA.

Will probably be deported tomorrow before lawyers can act.

11. And just how much of that threat assesment came from the US Govt?
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 03:30 AM by Eugene
We already know that the FBI and DHS track peace activists
as potential terrorists. It would be interesting to know
what they forwarded to the Australian authorities about Parkin.

On edit: recommended

13. Howard's trying to push new anti-terrorism measures
that will seriously curtail our civil liberties. I think this proves
that his legislation has more to do with stifling dissent no matter
where it comes from.

An update on the case:
