WP,pg1: Poll Shows Republican Kilgore Ahead of Dem Kaine in Va. Gov Race
Poll Shows Kilgore Ahead of Kaine in Va.

By Michael D. Shear and Claudia Deane
Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, September 11, 2005; Page A01

Republican Jerry W. Kilgore is leading in the Virginia governor's race despite efforts by Democrat Timothy M. Kaine to tap widespread satisfaction with Gov. Mark R. Warner's performance, according to a new Washington Post poll.

Among all registered voters, Kilgore is ahead by 4 percentage points as the campaign enters its final two months. His lead widens to 7 percentage points among those most likely to vote.

Kilgore, a former attorney general, has cast himself as the perfect fit for a traditionally conservative state. The poll of registered voters shows he would receive 45 percent of the vote if the election were today.

Kaine, the state's lieutenant governor and a former mayor of Richmond, claims to be the natural heir to Warner's legacy as a centrist Democrat. But even though an impressive 76 percent of voters approve of the job Warner is doing, just 41 percent said they would vote for Kaine if the election were today....

***

...Kilgore's lead suggests that Kaine is having a difficult time repeating the electoral magic Warner worked in 2001, when he defeated Mark L. Earley by, among other things, winning support in conservative, rural regions....

4. I think that every region gets what they deserve
I live in California and we got Arnold.

I lived in Maryland in 2002 and we got Ehrlich, who is a Bush clone. Along with Erhlich we got Steele, who is a Condi clone, as Lt. Gov. Steele may replace our beloved Sarbanes who is retiring as Senator.

I used to live in Massachusetts and they got Romney as governor, who just used the voters in Mass. so he could run for president as a fundie.

Arkansas elected Bill Clinton as governor and gave us a very good president in my opinion. Georgia elected Jimmy Carter and gave us a very honest presiden.

That said, I am very sorry that Virginians may elect a man who will undo what the very popular Dem Warner has achieved.

11. We Deserve Better Than These Assholes

Yes, they can buy or steal their way into office anywhere.
They own the news, the churches, and the voting machinez.

That doesn't mean that we deserve to be ruled by them.

TERRIFIC! :sarcasm: Guess us "beltway bandits" of the Democratic persuasion will be forced to tolerate more koolaid drinking, Limpball idolizing a**holes behaving even more OPENLY OBNOXIOUS in the future.

These Republican upper middle class (wealthy-investor class wannabes), Northern Virginia, SNOBS already assume that every white neighbor they trip over thinks *exactly* like they do.

I was confronted by a neighbor a few weeks ago, "I couldn't believe it! You have *Retired Marine Corps, Semper Fi!* on your van along with *Don't blame me I voted for Kerry*? That don't make any sense to me!" I smiled and demurely said, "It makes sense to me," turned around and walked away.

Please don't waste your time engaging these ARROGANT people who whine about living from hand to mouth while they have a Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway.

Why these otherwise academically intelligent people cannot see that George W. Bush, et. al., is corrupt and only supportive of the Investor Class, is way beyond my imagination. All I can guess is that they lack a sense of humanity and/or compassion for others. I find such "me first!" personalities lacking in good character and integrity. Look at who they elect? Dubya, Cheney, Delay etc. :(

I hope Kaine pulls through and this poll is bogus. More and more people who are not "willfully ignorant" are waking up to the nightmare of having elected George W. Bush. I've noted that there are distinctly fewer "W 04" stickers on the cars in our Northern Virginia area.

Let's all us Virginians hope we don't have to tolerate that nasty man, Kilgore, as our Governor for four years? The horror ... the horror :P

6. Is it just me or is this race stagnant?
I've seen similar polling numbers for months. Does anyone have any idea why this is?

7. IMO Kaine is moving too far to the center (rightward)
He needs to "be himself" otherwise he will be seen as unremarkable. Unfortunately, when a Democratic politician takes ANY stand, they have the asinine right wing radio stooges to spin it into a negative. Until we can get these deplorable people off of national radio (maybe never), any democratic politician must be very careful in stating his positions. Dammit! ;)

8. Can a liberal even possibly win in Virginia?
Mark Warner barely won in 2001 though if he could run again he would apparently kick ass, but he ran as a centrist Democrat.

9. Well Put
You just described about 80% of my neighbors. I think the topper was the H2 with the "Git R Done" Yellow Ribbon.

I have, however, noticed that a lot of those ribbon magnets are mysteriously vaporizing off the backs of cars. That gives me some hope. And I do know there at least a few of us who are voting Kaine all the way, as well as helping out with the campaign (for what good it does out here in Prince William).

12. Kilgore's last campaign was the second most racist I have EVER seen
The first being Helms' against Harvey Gant years ago. Of course, that was years ago and Helms is qhacko... Kilgore is a real SOB; he attempted to pull the gender and sexual orientation protection at VA Tech and UVA... the Board of Visitors at VA Tech actually voted to do it, with Kilgore's backing and blessing. Luckily, that was overturned. Also luckily, UVA is a bit liberal and in a way more liberal area than VA Tech...
