Qaeda Member Warns of Attacks
Sept. 11, 2005 — In an apparent Sept. 11 communiqué broadcast on ABC News, an al Qaeda operative threatens new attacks against cities in the US and Australia.

"Yesterday, London and Madrid. Tomorrow, Los Angeles and Melbourne, God willing. At this time, don't count on us demonstrating restraint or compassion," the tape warns. "We are Muslims. We love peace, but peace on our terms, peace as laid down by Islam, not the so-called peace of occupiers and dictators."

Is this perfect timing?

1. peace laid down by Islam
is one of tolerance of one's neighbors, allowing them to live in peace alongside you. The Peace of Islam follows the teachings laid down in all faiths, all religions, for it comes from the same source. I don't believe the al Qaeda spokesman really knows what this is.

23. not certain
but my understanding was that muslims tolerance of other's religions applied to those who lived under Islamic rule (Islamic State). I would like my religion (or even lack thereof) to be tolerated without being under Islamic law.

I don't think the Taliban was very tolerant when they destroyed the Bamiyan Buddhas.

Sadly as with all religions the "do's and dont's" are reshaped and in some cases mutilated by those who profess to be strict followers.

I would agree with you though that I too don't believe the spokesman truely knows what he is professing to believe.

The timing is just too convenient.

2. This is when we need
a strong Dem to rise up and speak. I am not a Clark fan but he would be the perfect choice right now. People feel insecure, see the mess * has made of this disaster and Clark fits the bill for those looking for some semblance of leadership.

3. It's so hard to tell which is real and which is Bush*...
both al Qaeda and Bush use FEAR to manipulate people.

Who are the "terrorists" again? "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you". ~ Nietzche

I'm not convinced that Al Qaeda is not the Middle Eastern branch of the Republican Party.

30. it's the obiligatory BOOGA-BOOGA
bush* is getting close to setting a new record for lowest approval rating for a "2nd*" termer. His numbers are more than just in the toilet - they've made it all the way to the sewage treatment plant

hence the latest BOOGA-BOOGA to scare the public - as if we aren't scared enough in the after-mess of FEMA/Homeland Security handling of Katrina

last year we had the bush* choir singing about "we're safer now than before September 11". How safe do you feel after seeing the "CEO" handle Katrina?

don't know about you, but although a terror attack has me a bit nervous - waiting (hoping) for help to arrive afterwards has me even more scared.

We're on our own kiddies - don't count on the calvary showing up, their too busy protecting bush*'s butt

7. Al-Qaeda video threatens Australia (Hearld Sun)
Al-Qaeda video threatens Australia

From correspondents in Washington
11sep05

A VIDEOTAPE televised overnight purportedly from a US-member of al-Qaeda threatened Melbourne and Los Angeles on the fourth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

ABC News in the US said it had received the video in Pakistan.
It reported the masked speaker appears to be Adam Gadahn, from southern California, who threatened attacks on the two cities, "Allah willing," and warns that the attackers will show no compassion.

"Yesterday, London and Madrid. Tomorrow, Los Angeles and Melbourne," he said.

9. Heh-heh, they have the guys name, and yet the best they can do is
raise the alert? That's not exactly what I would call COUNTER Terrorism Seems they are being reactive rather than pro-active. How about trying to find the guy instead of preparing for AFTER the hit? :eyes:

Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton told ABC News his city has "very robust counter terrorism" steps in place and was already on a heightened state of alert because of next month's Jewish holidays.

because of "national security." My once-leftist brother did. No other reason than he thought we'd be safer. So scaring the masses would seem to be counter-productive.

16. If our government seriously considered staging catastrophes
in the 1960's to startle and persuade Americans into approving a war on Cuba, I have no doubt this right-wing administration would easily stage another catastrophe (a huge LIE with victems) to get us all back under its thumb, make us more manageable on the road to a total takeover far more oppressive that what they've done already:
U.S. Military Wanted to Provoke War With CubaBook: U.S. Military Drafted Plans to Terrorize U.S. Cities to Provoke War With Cuba
By David Ruppe

N E W Y O R K, May 1, 2001 In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.

Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities.

America's top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and, "casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."

up something, as if bin Laden and Rove were joined at the brain stem. Keeping the fear titer high used to elevate Bush numbers.

22. Los Angeles and Melbourne - chosen for alliteration...
... not because they're being targeted in particular. Al Qaeda doesn't go around tipping its hand in its messages to the Western world, at least not this blatantly. That's not to say that some nutjobs might not take this as a signal to attack those cities, but this isn't Bin Laden or al-Zarqawi's style.
