Pelosi Statement on FEMA Director Michael Brown's Resignation

Washington D.C. - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement this afternoon on FEMA Director Michael Brown's resignation:

"The American people deserve new professional leadership at FEMA. Michael Brown's departure from FEMA is long overdue, and his resignation is the right thing for the country and for the people of the Gulf Coast states.

"President Bush's next FEMA director must be a qualified emergency response professional with the leadership experience to manage this disaster and future emergencies.

"With qualified, experienced, and effective leadership at FEMA, we can work together to provide the victims of Hurricane Katrina with the income, food, clothing, and housing resources they desperately need to begin the long process of rebuilding their lives."

1. Whoever is Bush's Nomination
will probably fail. If he called me to do a job, I would say no. If he thinks I'm qualified, I'm damn sure I'm not!

Democrats rip Bush hurricane response

Last updated: 10:56 p.m., Sunday, September 11, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Louisiana's senior senator {Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La.} on Sunday escalated the Democrats' rhetoric against the Bush administration's hurricane response, accusing the White House of a "full court press" to blame state and local officials for the initial sluggish rescue effort.
...
The House Democratic leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., proposed an independent commission to watch for contractor scams in hurricane repairs.

"Already we have seen despicable stories of those trying to profit off desperate Gulf Coast residents," she said. Her plan would investigate waste and fraud as soon as contracts are awarded.

You know, after watching the "debates" and seeing every single democrat but a few playing softball, I asked the same question. Except I wonder why DU'ers aren't the strategists and speech writers.

15. Exactly, we have a figurehead and "Brownie" clones doing the line work
so in effect, there has been miniscule change. This needs to be made an issue of and Pelosi missed that chance. History will judge those who have compiled too many missed opportunities for real truth-telling.

first card in the house has been brought down. Time to CELEBRATE our democratic leaders!

It took courage and chutzpah to call for this resignation. And forcing the resignation is a blow to the Bush Admin., an embarrasment, an adminition of incompetence. YEA, Nancy, way to go!
