WASHINGTON (AP) - The new acting director of the Federal Emergency
Management Agency pledged Tuesday to intensify efforts to find more
permanent housing for the tens of thousands of Hurricane Katrina
survivors now in shelters.

"We're going to get those people out of the shelters, and we're going
to move and get them the help they need," R. David Paulison said in
his first public comments since taking the job.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff introduced Paulison as
the Bush administration tried to deflect criticism for the sluggish
initial federal response to the hurricane and its disastrous
aftermath.

1. sticks plus duct tape plus plastic wrap - his already suggested solution!
Why does the media not note his creative past suggestions?

2. Just so long as the homes are NOT in Louisiana in GREAT numbers
Hey, we CAN'T have all of those NOLA blacks voting as a block in Louisiana EVER again can we now...tut tut, those NOLA blacks were what was keeping the Democrats in.

Lets stick them in Utah, Indiana, Alaska and Arizona, build them houses there and then their votes being diluted will NEVER count ever again. Yeah, thats the ticket.

:sarcasm:

3. Indiana is in the same boat ...

Previous to Bush's Bitch Mitch (the man who personally supervised cutting the NOLA levee budget), Democrats had controlled the statehouse for 12 years.

I doubt they would want to re-settle people in a red(national)/blue(local) state. They would want to resettle them in red/red states like Alaska. Or better yet, a blue/blue state like New York.

Of your list, Utah is probably the only place that would be appropriate for their purposes.

6. Anyone have a link
which will lay the levy cuts right at Daniel's feet? He was * budget director, and if he did this then everyone in Indiana should be aware of his stupidity. Not that he is well liked anyway.

7. I assume the term "budget director" means something ...

The same way the term "FEMA director" means something. These guys find morally reprehensible things to cut all the time like money for working single mothers and condomns. It's not very hard to show that their eye of scrutiny would "overlook" something so trivial as the levee system that kept the "gateway to the Mississipi" from being deluged.

4. FEMA, meet speculators.

Ah, now the great hordes of "house flippers" shall descend like giant birds of prey upon the cash cow of relief money. FEMA better not expect the "free market" to show NOLA residents any mercy. That's not how capitalism works, after all.

5. FWIW, HUD homes are off the market right now ....
while they make them available to Katrina evacuees first. That was one of the first things they did. So the investors and "flippers" can't get their hands on them right now.
