Syria condemns Baghdad bombings as acts of terrorism

DAMASCUS, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Syria, facing U.S. and Iraqi accusations that it allows foreign fighters to cross into Iraq, condemned as acts of terrorism the wave of attacks in Baghdad that killed more the 150 people on Wednesday.

"The people and government of the Syrian Arab Republic are extremely pained by the news of the terrorist bombings in Baghdad today that killed a large number of innocent people in brotherly Iraq," a foreign ministry source told Reuters.

Syria strongly condemns targeting innocent Iraqi civilians in any Iraqi city or village," said the source in an apparent reference to militant violence and retaliatory attacks by U.S.-led forces that often result in civilians casualties.
