October 22, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - Democratic 2004 wannabe Howard Dean yesterday said Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton told him she wouldn't run for president this time - and that Bill Clinton said he won't publicly support any candidate in the primaries.

Despite widespread reports that the former president has privately talked up late entry Wesley Clark, Dean said he doesn't believe Clark is the Clintons' man.

does Hillary have to say before it sinks in for some people. She has said publicly NUMEROUS times that she has no plans for running. I wonder if she gets tired of answering this question.

generally, when you run for President, whether you're an insider or an outsider, you call around and let important people know that you're running to see who they're supporting, if they'd support you, and so forth. Every outsider, from McGovern to Kucinich, does this.

So they know each other. I recall reading that she was the only person he called to ask if she was going to run. I suspect that if she was going to he might have decided not to run. Dean has always had a great deal of respect and admiration for the Clintons. They have been on friendly terms for a very long time. That's most likely why Bill Clinton came out to defend Dean against that dumb DLC memo.

He has said numerous times previously that he asked Hillary if she were running before he decided to run. She kept her word to him and to the people of New York. (Also, notice the use of the word "wannabe." Sounds kind of like a slap at Dean. Of course, it IS the N.Y. Post.)
