Agency says lever voting machines don't meet federal requirements
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 04:29 PM by RagingInMiami
Don't know if this has been posted, but I thought we were supposed to be getting rid of computer voting machines, not adding them.

"If local election leaders can't use the old lever machines, they'll be forced in a few months to acquire more modern voting machines such as optical scan or touch screen devices."

4. I admit, I used all kind of different voting machines in the past.
I used the oldlever machines in PA, the punch card in SC and TX, and the touch screen here in GA. I really don't have any idea how accurate the old lever machines were. Mobody ever questioned them! They also didn't have any audit trail! I've been thinking about that for a long time. We really have no idea how accurate our votes have been counted in the past! I guess none of the elections have been close enough to cause us to question them!

6. This isn't really news
I heard about the federal requirements some moths ago. Complience with the post 2000 election "reforms" by 2006 or face loss of federal funding. I don't know what NYS is going to purchase but with Eliot Spitzer as attorney general we will hear a lot of shouting if the sec'y of state tries to screw us.

8. Decision was probably made over lunch on K-Street
"Here's $20,000. Use your authority to make Connecticut spend millions to buy our touch screen device voting machines. There's more in it for you if you do the job right."
