YOGYAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) - Malaysia's outspoken prime minister launched a new verbal attack Wednesday on the "great exponents of democracy" for "terrorizing the world" after the Sept. 11 attacks. <snip>
"We see states launching vicious, massive retaliation, not just to kill suspected terrorists but (also) his family, his home, his village and his town," Mahathir said Wednesday in Yogyakarta, where he received an award for promoting engineering in Southeast Asia.
"It would be ridiculous to think that such attacks do not terrorize the innocent. In fact, the terror is even greater. It is systematic and executed with heavy weapons in the hands of trained soldiers," he said. <snip>
In the past, he has accused Bush of trying to "out-terrorize the terrorists" with an ill-directed war on the al-Qaida network and said Australia's Prime Minister John Howard behaved like a "white man sheriff in some black country."
Mahathir said Wednesday that after Sept. 11, 2001, "the great exponents and practitioners of democracy believe that the way to spread doctrine and to break down resistance is by terrorizing the world." <snip>
