NEW YORK - First lady Laura Bush, addressing a group of her African peers about the AIDS crisis on their continent, said Thursday that education and compassion were the keys to progress in stopping the spread of the deadly disease.

1. Compassion is always
cool but then there is that little money issue, too.

9. I used to give Bush a little benefit of the doubt.
I have always thought the Bush regime, et. al was evil to the bone but I thought Bush as an unknowing pawn who had the same amount of "compassion" as the next guy but just stupid and unaware. After his Katrina performance, I've come to the conclusion that he (and Laura evidently) are nothing more than hearless bastards who have negative compassion.

7. Right!
Condoms would be the least expensive form of protection to use, but that would involve education. Bush is so beholden to the religious fundamentalists, that what should be policies formulated by medical realities, are instead determined by what the fundies consider moral or immoral.

Immoral is letting millions of people suffer because we have an administration that is so pig-headed that what should be taught based on science and medical knowledge, is instead swept aside so that the Jerry Falwells of the world will approve.

He hasn't been in office for 5 full years yet, and Bush has caused so much death and suffering, that the United States is held in contempt, and hated, throughout the world. I find it hard to deal with the pain and misery he has caused for so many people.

should develop another way to speak. Choose other words. AIDS is a matter of money. Money for medication, money for information campaigns and the like.

Saying you pray for somebody or words like compassion are just a nono in international affairs. I and a lot of other Germans for instance find it slightly ridiculous and bothersome. Stay with the facts. If you wanna pray over me do so by all means but please don't tell me and force me to say thank you.

And for that drugged up wife to "adress" African leaders and educating them about "compassion" is downright insolent. I always imagine that politicians from other countries MUST get roaring drunk after negotiating with American politicians.
I know I would have to.

6. i used to feel sorry for her but now
i realize she is just as bad as her husband. she accepted the years of abuse from the bush family because she enjoyed the world around her. maybe somethings she dreamed of did not come true but by sticking it out with her husband she got what few women will get-the wife of the president of the usa. i guess she thinks her years of abuse and humiliation was worth it.

10. Just shut up Pickles! Ashley Judd does it so much better than you
More articulate, more caring,m and definitely more sincerity. I don't see Laura roughing it in Africa, eating dinner at an AIDS-infected prostitute's house....

Plus, Ashley is way better looking, too....

12. and real jobs for men would help too.. Men who could
support a family might feel better about themselves and actually settle down into a real family life..Women do not like to commit to "losers"..and losers tend to get angry and aggressive:(

Endless cycle..everyone loses:(
