Bush Talks Katrina Relief At Prayer Service

(AP) WASHINGTON As America rebuilds its Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, President Bush says it should also erase the effects of the persistent poverty and racial injustice that’s existed in the region.

Speaking at a national prayer service in Washington for victims of the storm, Bush said, “As we clear away the debris of a hurricane, let us also clear away the legacy of inequality.”

He’s speaking again of the impact the storm took on minorities and the poor in the region.

Bush said the effort to restore broken communities and disrupted lives is “now in our hands.” He says it’s not a burden, but instead an opportunity to do for fellow Americans what they would do for others.

1. They are playing the "with us or against us" game again
The following outlines when it is acceptable to criticize the Bush administration

You can criticize Bush* at any time other than the follow:

BEFORE he completely screws up. That is being an "obstructionist".

WHILE he is completely screwing up or WHILE he is covering up the screw up. That is "not offering positive alternatives"

AFTER he screws up. That is "Monday morning quarterbacking" or "revisionist history"** take your pic.

___________________________________________

*let's assume that, for brevity, that he has an actual function and is actually in charge***.

** see "Links to terrorism/WMD/a threat" changing to "freedom is on the march".

**** relax, we know he isn't at least we PRAY**** he isn't.

****even evil godless communist liberal types are willing to say a few words on bended knee just in case. OH PLEASE GOD NO... that sort of thing.

Judge Orders Release of Jailed Grandmother

By KEVIN MCGILL and JOHN SOLOMON, Associated Press Writers 1 hour, 41 minutes ago

KENNER, La. - A 73-year-old diabetic grandmother and church elder who fled Katrina's floodwaters for the safety of a hotel ended up in prison instead for more than two weeks — all over a bite of food.

Police in this New Orleans suburb arrested Merlene Maten the day after the hurricane on charges she took $63.50 in goods from a looted deli. Though never before in trouble with the law, her bail was set at a stiff $50,000 and she was shipped away to a state penitentiary.

Family and eyewitnesses insist Maten's prison odyssey was unwarranted, claiming she only had gone to her car to get some sausage to eat when officers cuffed her in frustration, unable to catch younger looters at a nearby store.

Despite intervention from the nation's largest senior lobby, volunteer lawyers from the
Federal Emergency Management Agency and even a private attorney, the family fought a futile battle for 16 days to get her freed.

Yeah, they care...

5. The Dem's need to ensure the jobs go to the residents
not carpetbagging contractors from up North. I can just see billions being paid out and little of it staying in NO.

8. This was the first time I heard Rev. Jakes speak. He is dynamic.
I believe his message is one we should all take to heart no matter our religious preferences and beliefs.
