Chavez flags US invasion plans
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 07:22 PM by cal04
VENEZUELA'S President Hugo Chavez said in a US television interview overnight that the United States has a plan to invade his country. "I'm telling you that I have evidence that there are plans to invade Venezuela," Chavez, an outspoken critic of the US administration, told ABC television.

"Furthermore, we have documentation," Chavez added.

The Venezuelan leader has said in the past that the United States had plans to assassinate him, which has been denied by the US administration. But the US authorities were embarrassed earlier this month after a right wing evangelist, Pat Robertson, called for the United States to have Chavez killed.

In the interview, Chavez said that since President George W. Bush came to power in January, 2001, "Venezuela has been subjected to permanent aggression against us and against me personally." The Venezuelan leader has made several attacks on the United States at the UN world summit in New York this week.

There are published "contingency plans" for 25 countries.

It is a matter of public record that *co attemped and failed to overthrow Chavez. So they devastated Haiti to get their *woodie back.

7. U.S. Decertifies Venezuela on Drug Control
<clips>

The Cubanization of United States policy toward Venezuela has begun in earnest. Yesterday, President George W. Bush released his findings on drug war “certification” – the highly politicized list the White House has produced since the mid-1980s of which countries are doing their part in “international” drug control efforts, and which have “failed demonstrably.”

Only two countries did not make the cut this year. The first was perennially-decertified Myanmar (Burma). The second was, as the State Department threatened last month, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela…

From yesterday’s presidential determination:

Pursuant to section 706(2)(A) of the FRAA, I hereby designate Burma and Venezuela as countries that have failed demonstrably during the previous 12 months to adhere to their obligations under international counternarcotics agreements and take the measures set forth in section 489(a)(1) of the FAA. Attached to this report (Tab A) are justifications for the determinations on Burma and Venezuela, as required by section 706(2)(B).

I have also determined, in accordance with provisions of section 706(3)(A) of the FRAA, that support for programs to aid Venezuela's democratic institutions, establish selected community development projects, and strengthen Venezuela's political party system is vital to the national interests of the United States.

(The “justifications” mentioned are not attached to the online version and, as far as I can tell, are not available anywhere online.)

earth.

An invasion plan might be something a little different, but I don't know. Also, taking affirmative steps (like reaching out to groups within Venezuela in preparation for an invasion) would probably be an unusual move worth noting.

16. If the rest of world leaders would ONLY listen to him....
From the speech:

It is unpractical and unethical to sacrifice the human race by appealing in an insane manner the validity of a socioeconomic model that has a galloping destructive capacity. It would be suicidal to spread it and impose it as an infallible remedy for the evils which are caused precisely by them.

We the people now claim- this is the case of Venezuela- a new international economic order. But it is also urgent a new international political order. Let us not permit that a few countries try to reinterpret the principles of International Law in order to impose new doctrines such as “pre-emptive warfare.” Oh do they threaten us with that pre-emptive war! And what about the “Responsibility to Protect” doctrine? We need to ask ourselves. Who is going to protect us? How are they going to protect us?

I believe one of the countries that require protection is precisely the United States. That was shown painfully with the tragedy caused by Hurricane Katrina; they do not have a government that protects them from the announced nature disasters, if we are going to talk about protecting each other; these are very dangerous concepts that shape imperialism, interventionism as they try to legalize the violation of the national sovereignty. The full respect towards the principles of International Law and the United Nations Charter must be, Mr. President, the keystone for international relations in today’s world and the base for the new order we are currently proposing.

Now is the time to not allow our hands to be idle or our souls to rest until we save humanity.

A "NEW" global economic plan (which originated in 1974)

From his speech:

Now more than ever- we were saying- we need to retake ideas that were left on the road such as the proposal approved at this Assembly in 1974 regarding a New Economic International Order. Article 2 of that text confirms the right of states to nationalizing the property and natural resources that belonged to foreign investors. It also proposed to create cartels of raw material producers. In the Resolution 3021, May, 1974, the Assembly expressed its will to work with utmost urgency in the creation of a New Economic International Order based on- listen carefully, please- “the equity, sovereign equality, interdependence, common interest and cooperation among all states regardless of their economic and social systems, correcting the inequalities and repairing the injustices among developed and developing countries, thus assuring present and future generations, peace, justice and a social and economic development that grows at a sustainable rate.”

25. More...
In just seven years of Bolivarian Revolution, the people of Venezuela can claim important social and economic advances.

One million four hundred and six thousand Venezuelans learned to read and write. We are 25 million total. And the country will-in a few days- be declared illiteracy-free territory. And three million Venezuelans, who had always been excluded because of poverty, are now part of primary, secondary and higher studies.

Seventeen million Venezuelans-almost 70% of the population- are receiving, and for the first time, universal healthcare, including the medicine, and in a few years, all Venezuelans will have free access to an excellent healthcare service. More thatn a million seven hundred tons of food are channeled to over 12 million people at subsidized prices, almost half the population. One million gets them completely free, as they are in a transition period. More than 700 thousand new jobs have been created, thus reducing unemployment by 9 points. All of this amid internal and external aggressions, including a coup d’etat and an oil industry shutdown organized by Washington. Regardless of the conspiracies, the lies spread by powerful media outlets, and the permanent threat of the empire and its allies, they even call for the assassination of a president. The only country where a person is able to call for the assassination of a head of state is the United States. Such was the case of a Reverend called Pat Robertson, very close to the White House: He called for my assassination and he is a free person. That is international terrorism!

34. It's not Robertson's only bond with terrorism, either.
Here's info. on Robertson's close ties to a raving right-wing lunatic monster dictator, Efraín Ríos Montt:
According to one of Robertson's biographers, "during the months he worked with the Grace company he viewed Latin America as the 'land of opportunity' where he would find some way to enrich himself. Though Robertson left the company after only about nine months, he later achieved his dream by extending Christian televangelism to Central America. By the 1980s, Pat Robertson's program "The 700 Club," reached 3.1 million viewers in Guatemala. Robertson took a personal interest in the strife torn Central American nation, developing warm ties to General Efrain Rios Montt, a born again evangelical Christian. When Rios Montt took power in a military coup d'etat in March of 1982, Robertson immediately flew to Guatemala, meeting with the incoming president a scant five days after he came to power. Later, Robertson aired an interview with Rios Montt on "The 700 Club" and extolled the new military government.

Robertson's visit came at a particularly sensitive time. Guatemala's dirt poor indigenous peoples, who made up half the country's population, were suffering greatly at the hands of the U.S. funded military. The armed forces had taken over Indian lands that seemed fertile for cattle exporting or a promising site to drill for oil. Those Indians who dared to resist were massacred. Rios Montt, a staunch anti-Communist supported by U.S. president Reagan, was determined to wipe out the Marxist URNG, the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Union rebels. However, according to Amnesty International, thousands of people with no connection to the armed struggle were killed by the regime. Not surprisingly, many Indians turned to armed resistance. To deal with the ever worsening situation, Rios Montt proposed a so called "guns and beans" campaign. Rios Montt explained the plan very succinctly: "If you are with us, we'll feed you, if not, we'll kill you." For Robertson, however, Rios Montt's extermination policy was of little account. Astonishingly, the televangelist wrote "I found to be a man of humilityimpeccable personal integrity, and a deep faith in Jesus Christ."

One reason that Rios Montt may have appealed to Robertson was the dictator's dislike of Catholic priests. In the 1980s, they had become an obstacle to the expansion of evangelical Protestantism. Working within indigenous communities, Catholic priests had been driven out or murdered. Protestant sects, on the other hand, allied to the Guatemalan military. They preached individual conversion, the importance of obedience to military and political authority, the merits of capitalism, and the value of inequality. Rios Montt's own Church of the Word went so far as to define priests and nuns as the enemy. According to Walter LaFeber, a historian of Central America, three priests were killed within a thirty-six month period in just one province. With the Catholic Church out of the way, Rios Montt conducted a scorched earth policy. His forces massacred as many as 15,000 Indians. Whole villages were leveled and the army set up "Civilian Self-Defense Patrols" which forced 900,000 villagers to "voluntarily" aid police in tracking down suspects. Rios Montt created "model" villages, similar to concentration camps, which housed Indian refugees. However, when 40,000 survivors sought safety in Mexico, Guatemalan helicopters machine gunned the camps. Rios Montt justified the genocidal policy by claiming that the Indians were suspected of cooperating with the URNG, the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Union, or "might" cooperate in future. Amnesty International noted that extra judicial killings carried out the by the military "were done in terrible ways: people of all ages were not only shot to death, they were burned alive, hacked to death, disemboweled, drowned, beheaded. Small children were smashed against rocks or bayoneted to death."

17. Annan requests meeting with President Chávez
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Kofi Annan requested Friday a meeting with Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, following his controversial speech on Thursday, when he argued that the UN works like a "dictatorship."

The meeting would take place in Annan's office, at the request of the Secretary-General himself, UN speaker Stephan Dujarric told Efe. Venezuelan government sources told AFP that the ruler adjourned two public activities in New York for agenda-related reasons.

Due to "UN schedule, which is his priority," President Chávez could not attend a ceremony at Columbia University and offer a press conference at the Venezuelan embassy, Speaker Natali Fani explained.

The official denied that the move was related to security matters and maintained that Chávez planned to attend a number of meetings at UN headquarters.

29. I agree, Dover--"the best defense is to shine a light on them and watch
them scatter." And I am much heartened by Chavez's courage and intelligence in doing so.

Although Bush Cartel crimes grow more outrageous every day, I do think if they were to invade Venezuela, it would be the last straw, and the other countries of the world would take action--perhaps not military action (too risky with a Darth Vader like Cheney having nukes), but economic action--to take down the United States.

It's interesting, our war profiteering corporate news monopolies like to paint Chavez as "increasingly authoritarian" (they attribute this to "his critics," never naming or quoting anyone, or providing any of the considerable evidence that he is nothing of the kind). But his policies in Venezuela are not that radical. In fact, what they most resemble is Lyndon Johnson's "War on Poverty"--funding of schools, community and medical centers for the poor, and seeding of small businesses--in Venezuela's case, by using some of their oil profits to benefit the majority of people, the poor, who have never before been represented in government.

Chavez's "new economic order" is just simple fairness. But our Corporate Rulers are so bloated--so fat with our money and our blood, and so crazy with greed--that they won't hear of fairness any more, and if they see any signs of it, they want to invade and kill.

Take note: Venezuela has electronic voting but with OPEN SOURCE CODE--so that anyone may inspect how votes are tabulated. That is the critical difference between us.

Open source code = a good president.
Secret, proprietary source code = a bad president.

Simple, really.

Time to throw these Bushite election theft machines, with their secret, proprietary programming code, into 'Boston Harbor'!

Viva Venezuela!

26. Chavez says US has plans to invade Venezuela
He highlighted how Venezuela was donating gasoline, through its state-owned Citgo stations, at a cut rate or free in American areas hurt by Hurricane Katrina.
Citgo has also put up hundreds of people on the grounds of a refinery outside New Orleans, he said.

"You hit me on one cheek, and I'll try to respond by helping you, I don't care. We're not doing this for the administration. We're doing it for the people of the United States. So that's how I respond," Chavez told ABC. "Today or tomorrow, a Venezuelan ship with 300,000 barrels of gasoline should be arriving. It's the first of four or five additional ships that we have sent to help," he told ABC.

"I have friends throughout the entire world, kings, princes, presidents, prime ministers," Chavez said. "The only country, the only administration with whom we don't have good relations on the face of the earth is the administration of Mr. Bush."

"This administration has truly broken with all protocols of democracy and respect for people. The coup d'etat against Venezuela was manufactured in Washington. My death was ordered. And it was ordered recently," he told ABC.
