NEW YORK, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Support for the war in Iraq among
Americans has tumbled to an all-time low, according to a New York
Times/CBS News poll published on Saturday.

Only 44 percent of those surveyed said the United States did the right
thing by invading Iraq, the lowest rating since the question was first
asked by the poll more than two years ago, the poll showed, according
to The New York Times.

Furthermore, more than eight in 10 Americans are very or somewhat
concerned that the war is costing money and resources needed in the
United States, the poll showed.

Nearly 60 percent now disapprove of the president's handling of the
Iraqi conflict and nearly half of all Americans are not proud of what
the United States is doing in the war, the poll found.

2. Poor dumbed down Americans.... one of their greatest worries
has often been whether or not they approve of their military dropping TNT on someone else's land... tsk tsk. If they were to poll the proper 50+% of the population, they would have 0, zero, (none) (null) (empty) support.... and they would have had the same number PRIOR to shrub's little adventure.

NEW YORK, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Support for the war in Iraq among Americans has tumbled to an all-time low, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll published on Saturday.

Only 44 percent of those surveyed said the United States did the right thing by invading Iraq, the lowest rating since the question was first asked by the poll more than two years ago, the poll showed, according to The New York Times.

Furthermore, more than eight in 10 Americans are very or somewhat concerned that the war is costing money and resources needed in the United States, the poll showed.

The poll also showed sharp racial divides in how the war is perceived by Americans. Only 36 percent of white Americans felt the war was having a negative impact in their communities, compared to 58 percent of black Americans.

Nearly 60 percent now disapprove of the president's handling of the Iraqi conflict and nearly half of all Americans are not proud of what the United States is doing in the war, the poll found.

21. Just wait till Sep. 24.
I'm planning to protest here in Portland. I hope we have an enormous turnout in Washington DC.

That 44% will dissipate rapidly.

15. What's wrong with them is...
...they still subscribe to the idealistic notion of why we went in there - all about freedom and Democracy, la la la la.

10. In the end..
The question must be asked. Was the capturing of 1 man worth.
a) 100,000 Iraqi civilian deaths
b) 2000 killed American troops
c) 10,000 injured troops
d)An Iraqi civil war drawing in its neighbors
e)Billions of Tax payers money spent with no end in sight
f)The U.S millitary spread to the breaking point.
G) The creation of young jihadists for generations to come.

If the Freeper says yes punch them in the mouth then carry on.

13. For your answer..
Let's turn it into a MasterCard commercial:

100,000 Iraqi civilian deaths
2000 killed American troops
10,000 injured troops
An Iraqi civil war drawing in its neighbors
Billions of Tax payers money spent with no end in sight
The U.S millitary spread to the breaking point.
The creation of young jihadists for generations to come.

Cheney and his pals now turn Iraqi Oil Spigots?

Priceless!

11. Huh? There are people who are PROUD
of what the US is doing in Iraq? That's just sick. I can sort of understand with all the lies that were told by the administartion that some people may have thought that it was necessary, but to be proud of it? I don't het it.

12. Hard to understand, isn't it?
WHAT is it that they could possibly be proud of?

The carnage?

The car bombings?

Abu Ghraib?

The "constitution" they've been trying to put together?

The "in its last throes" insurgency?

The rise in al Qaeda presence/success/recruitment?

The descent into civil war?

The scrounding for makeshift "body armor" in the local dumpsters? (Oh yeah, Yankee ingenuity, that one.)

14. GOOD
Katrina changed everything.

Every time an American is killed in Iraq, I will say "I told you so".

And I don't care who I offend. I will be heard, and I will defend myself if attacked.

16. I've gotten to the same point.
I generally don't discuss politics with strangers, but when the subject comes up, I just say, "Anyone who voted for boosh* is an idiot," and leave it at that. That's all. Usually, one of three responses occurs:

(1) Dead silence: I take that to mean that the person voted for Tinkles, but is having second thoughts.
(2) Agreement: We go off to have a beer or two or three.
(3) Standard boosh*lover defense: The stops are pulled out. So far, I've managed to back down two men who probably could have easily ripped off my arms and stuffed them up my ass. (Children, don't try this at home. I stand all of 5'7" on a good day and I know full well the risks I take.)

Offend them? Convert them? Couldn't care less. I don't even bother anymore. They have the Kool-Aid coursing through their veins and feel they've been touched by boosh's* Noodly Appendage. Fie on them.

they deserve it! i don't care to associate w/ anyone whose world view is so radically different from mine.

one of our new employees used to work for * in TX and she says he's awful. never acknowledged the women by name, they were always, " Gals ". if he's so dismissive of people, i can be just as dismissive toward his minions.

19. Support is sinking because Americans hate promises being broken.
bush and rummie and the whole stinkin' cabal of them all but promised this would be a cakewalk. Just go in there, change that Saddam regime, take over the oil, install democracy, and leave, all in less than a year.

Anyone who still supports bush in a poll is only doing so out of either sheer stubbornness, appalling ignorance, a blind obedience to authority, or an unwillingness to admit that America can do anything which is not for the greater good.

24. Support is sinking because gas prices are rising
At this rate the Iraq's revenues WILL pay for its reconstruction.

Americans deep down thought that the payoff to invading Iraq would be cheaper gas.

All the talk about WMD, democracy, terrodism is secondary to the main ideas of cheaper gas.

20. And we are losing whatever gains we had in Afghanistan.
Bush recently said he can do more than one thing at once.

Like screw up Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.

What INCOMPETENCE!

A good lesson: never follow some chicken hawk pointing the way for others into war.
