IRL Driver Tony Renna Killed in Indianapolis Speedway Testing Session
"In a crash this morning at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IRL driver Tony Renna, 26, was killed after the car he was testing for Chip Gannasi hit the wall and flipped into the fence. WIBC Sports Director confirmed with two sources of Renna's death. He had just signed with the team. He had six IRL starts in 2003 with Kelley Racing, and had recently signed with Gannasi Racing. He was testing teammate Scott Dixon's car when the accident occurred. More details are coming. Stay tuned to 1070 WIBC and here at wibc.com."

I know racing is dangerous but it still hurts when you hear about a fatality.

2. Not a good month for the I*L
First Kenny Brack's horrendous-looking wreck at TMS and now this...Plus there was Mario's monumental back flip at Indy earlier this year...Ya think someone might want to re-work the design of those crapwagons??

What, terrible terrible news....

3. He was a hometown boy for me.
Well, the next town over, really. I only saw him in commercials for a local restaurant, but he seemed like a nice enough guy. My condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans.

4. God, that's awful. Reminds me of Moore and Senna.
Considering how many accidents there are in open-wheeled racing, compared with how many fatalities, I'd say these cars are some of the safest in the world. In what other car could you hit a wall at 200mph and walk away shaken but otherwise unhurt?
