About 200 go on hunger strike in Guantanamo: report
(AFP)

18 September 2005

WASHINGTON - A hunger strike at the US military’s prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has unsettled senior commanders and produced the most serious challenge yet to the military’s effort to manage hundreds of terrorism suspects, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

Quoting unnamed lawyers and officials, the newspaper said as many as 200 prisoners - more than a third of the camp’s population -- have refused food in recent weeks to protest conditions and prolonged confinement without trial.

While military officials put the number of those participating at 105, they acknowledge that 20 of them, whose health and survival are being threatened, are being kept at the camp’s hospital and fed through nasal tubes and sometimes given fluids intravenously, the report said.

The military authorities were so concerned about ending a previous strike this summer that they allowed the establishment of a six-member prisoners’ grievance committee, said the Times.

They must be serious if they're passing up the world-famous "lemon baked fish" and "oven fried chicken" discussed by California MEpublican Rep. Duncan Hunter.

2. Can they GET any more despicable, low, or evil?
"Order the body bags and pig skin toe tags."

"Force feed 'em raw bacon, LOL."

"Let 'em starve."

"Like they do on Deadwood, just feed them to the chinamans pigs."

"get a pack of buzzards to patrol the hallway and let the scum watch the buzzards start drooling"

"If they starve they can't fight. If they die, feed 'em to the sharks. {{{YAWN}}}"

"Fantastic !! Let them eat 'pork'."

Three guesses as to where these responses came from, and the first two citing the American Nazi Party or blogs and boards supporting dropping puppies from tenth floor windows do not count...

... anyone notice the cruel irony that one can pretty much presume that the majority of this cesspool would proudly proclaim themselves to be "christian" and most likely strongly agree with the sentiment that the "christians" of our nation are a persecuted group.

However, when confronted with people or issues with which they disagree, their first recourse is to use a religious component (pork vis-a-vis muslims) as an attack cudgel.

Not to mention their "savior's" admonition to "feed the hungry" was amply demonstrated and supported by the story of the "loaves and fishes." Kind of funny as to how they always forget the beatitudes when launching their own religious jihads, huh?

Hypocrisy, anyone? Damn, they are a hateful group.

4. Striking Guantanamo Prisoners Seek Court's Help
By Richard A. Serrano, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON -- Lawyers for detainees at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, asked a federal judge in Washington today to help end a protracted hunger strike, saying they are convinced that many of the prisoners are determined to starve themselves.

"They call it 'Hunger to Death,'" said Thomas B. Wilner, a Washington lawyer who visited some of the 11 Kuwaiti detainees he represents at the island prison.

He said three clients were severely emaciated, with one unable to stand or sit without help, while another was constantly bleeding from his nose, where prison doctors have been force-feeding him. <snip>
