House Democrats Hitch Wagon to Warner

Delegate Candidates Cite Governor's Popularity, While GOP Stresses Initiatives

By Chris L. Jenkins
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, September 18, 2005; Page C07

Gov. Mark R. Warner brought fellow Democrats to their feet yesterday at the party's central committee meeting in Fredericksburg with the message that House candidates are hoping will carry them to victory.

"We as Democrats have shown what Democratic leadership can do in terms of moving our state forward," Warner told a crowd of about 200. "It was the commonwealth of Virginia, under Democratic leadership, that was named the best-managed state in the nation."

Like Lt. Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) in the gubernatorial race, Democrats in the House of Delegates campaign are hoping that Warner's popularity will rub off on them in the Nov. 8 election as they try to whittle away at the GOP majority's 60 seats.

1. "the best-managed state in the nation" that is a REAL compliment. Too bad
the MSM will not let us Democrats get the pulicity on this we deserve. If it were a Republican governor, it would be all over the MSM as well as Rush and company.

I wonder if ANY of our talk shows - Al, Springer, etc will even MENTION it?

I need a cup of coffee - obviously I'm in a sour mood :(

2. It's really up to Warner as to whether he wants to run.
Personally,I'd like to see him go for it in 2008. But, traditionally, the VA Governership (which is limited to a single term) is the springboard to the state's junior Senator seat. My guess is that Sen. Allen (R) is going to be a candidate for the Republican Presidenial nomination, and Mark Warner is going to take his seat in the U.S. Senate away.

That would be a very good thing.

4. Warner has already said on record he's not going for Allen's seat in 2006
which probably means he's going for a Presidential run in 2008. If he doesn't make it, then he'll go for (likely open) Senate seat in 2010 when/if John Warner retires as he's expected to.

Warner is my governor and he's incredible. He will do the democratic party proud no matter what he does.

Warner among Bilderberg group

AP | May 28 2005

Gov. Mark R. Warner quietly slipped away this month to Germany for a secretive weekend conclave of global economic and foreign-policy figures.
Warner confirmed Monday that he took part in the annual Bilderberg meeting the weekend of May 6-8 at a resort hotel near Munich.

Other U.S. participants included former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, Ford Motor Co. Chairman and CEO Bill Ford and Richard Holbrooke, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder addressed the group, Warner said.

"My sense was you had the opportunity here to interact with the leading business leaders not only of the United States but in all of Europe," Warner said in an interview.

Participants are forbidden to disclose what they discussed.

"I think I should honor the ground rules," Warner said when asked for details....cont'd

Just another company man, working for the company store.

Do you think the Democrats really want to fix the E-Voting and transparency problems?

Citizens have got to wise up. What will it take?
Here's another discussion of this subject.

6. IIRC, he was the only major Dem politician there this year
Last year, the token Dem at Bilderberg was Edwards - soon before he was given the VP slot for the Dems. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Warner gets the nomination for Pres or VP in 2008...

It's damn frustrating. Sometimes it is hard to believe that voters have any control over the situation at all. But I gotta believe there is something to fight for

Never give up.

7. There IS something to fight for....it's just not a political figurehead.

But then to change the 'real' power structure that exists, would require the collective to awaken from their preferred illusions. Not likely. But if individuals do attempt to recognize reality, it is always preceded by a deep, painful disillusionment with the existing order of one's life and a sense of disorientation when one temporarily loses his/her usual points of reference. Most would rather avoid this sea change and instead turn any fear or anger about things on each other or a figurehead rather than the true powers that be...or continue to beat their heads against their own unyielding illusions and broken systems. Truly awakening to one's illusions is much more threatening, apparently, than practically any misery that can be inflicted on one from without.

So there you are...you choose to accept the illusion or the reality. Of course the reality choice always comes with much greater responsiblity....a responsibility that most of the elite who understand that reality assume the collective would rather not have...and should not have.

"Gotta believe"?

Goooooooooooo Warner!
