Israeli generals fear arrest in Britain

The Israeli Prime Minister has rebuffed an invitation to visit Britain after a retired Israeli general was nearly arrested at Heathrow Airport.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon denied British Prime Minister Tony Blair's request for a diplomatic visit, saying he also fears being arrested, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Major-General Doran Almog refused to leave an El Al flight from Israel to London this week after a British court issued an arrest warrant.

The warrant has been cancelled, but the British Embassy said it was for procedural reasons, which doesn't rule out future warrants
