Alabama awarded $22 million in Federal Homeland Security Grants

Posted By: Devin Walker

(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) October 22 - Alabama Governor Bob Riley announced Wednesday more than $22 million in Federal Homeland Security Grants have been awarded to local governments in Alabama. (snip)

(snip) The funding allocation for the grants included:

$911,500 - Granted to Alabama's 67 counties and its tribal jurisdiction, the Poarch Creek Indians. The funds are used to complete the federally required State Homeland Security Assessment Strategy. Once completed, this strategy will outline the capabilities Alabama needs to further combat terrorism.

$4,800,000 - Granted to 6 counties to build identical equipment packages for terrorism prevention. The six receiving counties will service a roughly 10 county region. The primary purpose for these equipment packages will be to enhance security at soft targets, such as large public functions throughout Alabama.

$1,750,000 - Granted to Montgomery County and Mobile County to be used for surveillance, security, and protection measures at the state port in Mobile and for protection at the State Capitol and other critical infrastructure in and around Montgomery County.

$14,842,938 - Granted strategically to several counties throughout Alabama. These funds will be utilized to equip county technical rescue teams and law enforcement response teams. In the event of a terrorist incident, these teams will activate to respond to the scene, secure the scene and conduct search and rescue operations. (snip/...)

The two-fingered eye poke, a known deterrent to terrorists!
(Put on your 3-D glasses)

Is this the same administration which continually campaigned by labelling the Democrats as big federal spenders?

1. This is some sort of payback for Richard Shelby
However, my poor state needs all the money it can get. People are getting laid off in droves and these are people that have worked in the same factory for all of their lives.

3. I'd suspect that
this is to help cover up the beating the states govt. is taking bec' of the recently passed state tax cuts. Anything that makes tax cuts look bad makes Chimp look bad.

4. Of Course, I Mean Everyone Knows What a Target Alabama is
for terrorists! :eyes:

No offense to Alabamians, but this money would be better spent on homeland security elsewhere, like in places terrorists are most likely to target...How much is NY getting?

20. See my post 10 below.
There are huge amounts of sarin, VX, and many other chemical weapons stored in Anniston and some are leaking. That's why they have sped up the burn, which leads me to think a) they gotta get rid of them before they can't control what they releas and b) they are a target. Can't go into why here.

Yes, NYC needs money, but don't discount this horrendous crap in the tons that is stored here.

5. This is too funny
* bails out Alabama, but tells Arnold and California to get fucked.

I wonder if Arnold still considers * to be his "very good friend"?

I'm pretty sure he's got something in the piggy bank for Arnold. He needs a quiet way to get it to him.

10. Anniston Army Depot has stepped up it's WMD burn.
Just last week they started incineration 24 hours...up from the previous burn of only 6pm to 6am. Feds said "speed it up boys." Yep they are a big terrorist target.

13. I know but if I told you I'd have to kill you
 Seriously, a lot of missle defense goes on here on Redstone but I don't think it a prime target for terrorists. They want well known landmarks and if they wanted an Army base to blow up there are bigger targets. I shudder to think what would happen in Anniston where all the chemical weapons are being disposed of.

14. I didn't know
about the WMD burn. Thanks for the info. Looks like they actually put some money where it may be needed for a change.

I've got TMI practically in my back yard, but it's not being protected all that well.

9. Oh, so that's why I got this flyer in my newspaper.
It is an open-house for job applications for federal government jobs here in Tuscaloosa. I noticed a lot of "law-enforcement" type jobs available and some relating to Homeland Security. I wondered what the hell it was all about.

I thought they were just trying to replace all the thousands of state troopers, EMT's, policeman, firemen and National Guardsmen that are in Iraq right now.

A sickening stat I just read in the paper: Alabama uses 17 state troopers on any given Saturday to "escort" University football teams to games. Yet on any given night there are only 6 state troopers on the highways!!!!!!

Yet on any given night there are only 6 state troopers on the highways!!!!!!

Not for long, apparently!

Your post is mind-boggling. Didn't know they were actually taking state troopers to send to help the Iraqiis learn to celebrate freedom.

19. Unfortunately Alabama is one of the biggest donors to the
shooting range in the ME. I personally know two people who have lost loved ones to this debacle.

Anniston IS a target, I do not doubt this at all. The wind patterns would take, well never mind.

24. We have a Winner!!!
yup, this is all about keeping the flesh mill going, and the faithful dying for the Holy War For Oil...

where do our young men and women of uniform come from? the ones that get bombed, shot, harrassed and mutilated? while their officers lounge in AC comfort?

the south.

how best to keep the mill running, and lots of fresh, young, ignorant and uneducated bodies flowing thru the mill? to get them to sign their lives away so you can make trillions by controlling major oil reserves?

throw them a bone after taking away their social nets.

step one- decimate the social support network. schools, hospitals, infastructure. take away family-sustaining jobs, send them to china, and threaten the few that remain (no union, horror!) overwhelm them with a generation of rhetoric, religious fundementalism and hate-mongering. divide them by race and gender and class.

step two- in economic hard times, guaranteed by step one after just a few years, offer 'opportunity' to the impoverished, who are running around stressing big time about supporting families, getting an education, and practicing skills. lie to them, promise them ease and comfort, offer some of them real power.

step three- make official the shift in government. only party member may now take part in decisions about the society. eliminate and isolate the dissenters, by identifying them as _________ because they don't/won't/can't be part of the new soldier-state power structure. all party members come from specific areas, and have specific training in the police/military state operations. they depend on the state for their lives, and enforce the state will in their actions. the suppress dissent in other regions. they become the domestic army.

i wonder which stage we're at now?

12. What is really going down in Alabama?
Thats what is scary.

Why did Alabama get awarded this money?

Guess New York didnt need any more 9/11 funding did they, or even California?

Yep, would have been the first state I would have picked. Alabama is a real trouble spot when it comes to terra.

23. What a phenominal waste of money!! The art of terrorism is to
bypass any defenses...anything they do will be useless against terrorism. The ONLY way to stop terrorism is to stop fucking with countries and their peoples. Stop funding Israel. Stop vetoing UN resolutions against Israeli genocidal activities. Treat every country fairly and stop stealing resources. Easy to stop terrorism.
