COLUMBUS - If you think it's early to be getting tape-recorded calls at home for the 2006 governor's race, you are not alone.

Ohio residents reported telephone calls last week recorded by Secretary of State Ken Blackwell in which the Cincinnati Republican asks several hot-button questions as a fund-raising vehicle.

"Did you vote to support marriage in the last election?" Blackwell asks of the amendment that banned same-sex marriages.

"Does it upset you that out-of-state liberals like California Sen. Barbara Boxer are still questioning the results of your vote?" Ohio's chief elections officer asks about the close November 2004 election.

Candidate's candor for coffers

Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell has been telling people Jerry Springer likely will be the Democratic candidate for governor next year. After providing that information, Blackwell asks for a contribution to help defeat Springer.

Blackwell, by the way, is running for the Republican nomination for governor.The Springer talk and money request come in a pre-recorded telephone survey with Blackwell himself doing the talking.

Longtime Democratic operative Dale Butland was surprised to get one of the Blackwell calls.

On the call to Butland, Blackwell didn't say Springer likely would be the Democratic candidate but asked if Butland agreed with the Ohio Democratic Party "in making trash talk-show host Jerry Springer the Democrat of the year?"

Butland, a Springer spokesman, answered that he did.Butland also said Springer, who now hosts a liberal talk-radio show, is "leaning against" running for governor. Butland said that he was surprised that the "chief elections officer in the state would be making push poll telephone calls."

2. I can't tell. The articles are really short, but it may be Blackwell.

Gene Pierce, Blackwell's campaign spokesman, acknowledged that the calls are "more of a fundraising effort than a public opinion poll," but Pierce defended talking up the likelihood of a Springer candidacy.

Bottom line, race is still a MAJOR issue in Ohio, and the current Gov.(R) is pulling in an approval rating of like 15%-19%. No way will it happen.

he's black and a Republican. That will lose him a lot of the black vote (black people don't look kindly on people they think are in league with those they think are oppressing them), and the white Republican vote will be fragmented between those that believe in the Republican ideal (and who may vote for him, regardless of race) and the white vote that is closet racist and can't have the moral courage to vote for a non-white.

Colin Powell was about the only black man that could expect to get a sizeable amount of the Republican party, and even him, I don't think could have won the Presidency.

With all the controversy and arrogance of this man, plus his black Republicanism, stacked against him, I'd be incredibly surprised if he won even the nomination from his party

18. Yes, I suspect he'll win big, sadly.

He's already trouncing the other 2 GOP candidates to the point that people are asking when they'll quit the race. The Dems have a LOUSY statewide organization, far less money, and are on the "wrong" side of all the hot-button issues (gays, taxes, guns, etc). It'll be the dirtiest campaign in Ohio history (Blackwell's push poll should be all the proof anybody needs of that), and Blackwell will win. The fact that he's black won't be as big a factor as others think. First of all, the Dem nominee may also be black. But BLACKwell put himself in with the white xtian gang with the anti-gay ammendment last time, so he's "one of the good ones" (in White racist code).

I'll donate and work for whoever the dems nominate, but I'm not very optimistic.

Issues 2,3,4 + 5 by Reform Ohio Now deal with election reform issues :

*campaign financing from $20,000 (OVER AGE 7) to $2,500.

*early voting

*fairness in redistricting

*MOST IMPORTANT non partisan board to oversee the administration of elections. (KEEPS BLACKWELL FROM RIGGING!)

Please, Ohio GOP, run Ken Blackwell for governor. That way we get to run 30 second ads of those ridiculous lines at the polls during Fiasco '04. We can run any of a number of angles, such as:

incompetence, for not having enough voting machines.
contempt for democracy, for not having enough voting machines on purpose.

I'm sure the Ohio NAACP has some good ones. Heck, we might not even need MoveOn.org.

that elected Ahnold for governor, I suspect that people in OH read the same stupid ass comics that the voters in CA read.

28. No I was the Treasurer for the Democratic Party in

Cuyahoga County (cleveland) for eight years, served as the dems elected rep on the Board of Elections for about a year, ran for office three times and was one of the main public faces for the party for all those years....

I still do work for a lot of local candidates although I am now disabled.....

Being a petty college student, I assume there's probably a lot of college students here(many of whom will of course achieve greatness), but it also seems as thought there is a number of very accomplished people. Still workin on getting over my ADHD tendencies(as most kids my age are in this technolgy driven world), but I've got ambitions waiting for fulfillment, so I better control em pretty soon! Heh. And there's also social distractions ya gotta get over. Bah, college is a gateway to greatness though... supposedly, so I'll ride it through. Still at a JC for now but looking towards UCBerkeley or UCLA as transfer opportunities.

I think you're righton about Springer, and I also think he has the opportunity to shape what people think of him for the better if he's an affective Governor as well. My 06 fantasy is to see Harris and Blackwell both get manhandled by their oppositions.

I love seeing how everything's unfolding with all this great watergate-like scandal. People are starting to get indicted left and right! From Delay to Bush. Who ever said Texas wasn't a land of opportunity ..for crime? :P

Well with this, I must hit the books and fill head with substantial lessons for the wonderful easternasian language of Japanese... :D
