Bush approval rating at 40 percent (CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll)

http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/09/19/bush.poll/index.html?section=cnn_latest

Bush approval rating at 40 percent
Majority disapprove of the handling of Katrina, Iraq

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush's vow to rebuild the Gulf Coast did little to help his standing with the public, only 40 percent of whom now approve of his performance in office, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Monday.

Just 41 percent of the 818 adults polled between Friday and Monday said they approved of Bush's handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, while 57 percent disapproved.

And support for his management of the war in Iraq has dropped to 32 percent, with 67 percent telling pollsters they disapproved of how Bush is prosecuting the conflict.

...

Fifty-nine percent said they considered the 2003 invasion of Iraq a mistake, 63 percent said they wanted to see some or all U.S. troops withdrawn from that country and 54 percent told pollsters they favor cutting spending on the war to pay for disaster relief.

One would always hope for better.

However, in this day and age, in which SO MANY PEOPLE are held captive by a media that is one-half fire-n-brimstone, pass-the-loot televangelist and one-half limbaugh or limbaugh-wannabe, THIS is the result you get. Souls that veyr likely can't be saved - unless that media condition is radically changed and/or the force-feeding stops.

Did you ever think we were going to see the light at the end of the tunnel after 9/11 and all that Iraq invasion hysteria?

Unfortunately, 3,000+ Americans, tens of thousands of Iraqis and almost 2000 of our own soldiers had to die to get to where we are now, not to mention God-only-knows how many Katrina victims. It's really very sad.

was at 40% (as opposed to 46%) all along -- but if that creates a nice "slide" story, who are we to complain? :) If there was, indeed, a significant slide, he should be in the mid 30s in the more accurate polls. Looking forward to seeing those.

By the way, the disapproval number there is the highest ever -- 58%. He was at 40% once before, late August, but the disapproval number was 56%.

http://pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm

Since Gallup is so shifty and unreliable, we should enjoy it while it lasts. Next time it may be back to 50% in that one, for all we know.

14. Limbaugh said it was at 48% said he was quoting a
Rasmussen poll. He then complained at how you won't see this poll quoted in the media. He also backed up his tirade saying this organization was one of the most accurate polling companies.

But he also quoted a CNN? poll that said only 13% percent felt Bush was responsible for the Katrina failures. As you know, there were many questions asked in that survey and over 40+ said Bush was not doing enough to fix things after the storm. But Limballs conveniently left that figure out.

Kinda makes you wonder what he left out ot the Rasmussen poll.

22. Lintball was lying.
Rasmussen has Bush dropping in the toilet too: 46% (not 48).

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Bush_Job_Approval.htm

I'm sure he's lying about CNN too. Given that polls generally show a low-mid 30's for his Katrina performance, 13% blaming him seems pretty far-fetched.

37. Ha! "Gallup" Needs to Be Renamed to "Catchup".
How laughable: Gallup purposely tried to buck the trend of polling institutions who clearly have been putting Bush in the 30's for the last two weeks including Newsweek and now suddenly has Bush down where all the other pollsters have him mid to high thirties...and falling.

More laughable: Wolf Blitzer of CNN touting Gallup (Oopss, I call the Catchup now) as showing Bush "ticking upward, ticking upward".

Even Catchup and Faux news can't place George Bush in the 40's anymore.

... I assume every time I see it it must have been a new poll that hasn't been that low before. I hope it's not like this though:

9/1 40% <- generates DU posting
9/3 42%
9/6 39% <- generates DU posting
9/9 41%
9/13 40% <- generates DU posting

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad that his numbers are low. It's just sounding like the old Chevy Chase Weekend Update skit where every week he announced "Generalísimo Francisco Franco is still dead!"

For the first time, more Americans say that the labels "honest and trustworthy" and "a strong and decisive leader" do NOT apply to Dubya.

For "cares about the needs of people like you", 56% of Americans say they do NOT think this applies to Dubya.

When asked:

"Just your best guess, do you think George W. Bush has taken steps to help victims of Hurricane Katrina mostly because he sincerely cares about the victims, or mostly for political reasons?"

56% of Americans say "political reasons".

This administration is not working for the people and they could care less about what the people think.

They have a mission and they will accomplish their mission no matter what. Anyone who objects will be destroyed.

And when their mission is finished, The United States of America as a government of the people will be nothing but a footnote in history books.

This is what I firmly believe.

WASHINGTON — Americans' views of President Bush and his leadership have soured in the wake of dismay over the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, the course of the Iraq war and the future of the economy.
Bush's rating for handling each of those issues dropped to his lowest yet in a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday. Assessments of his personal qualities also fell: For the first time, a majority says he isn't a strong and decisive leader.
Bush's overall approval rating is 40%, equaling a previous low. His disapproval is 58%, a new high.

64. Who are these 40% and how can they be reached?
What does it take? Really, what does it take? What horror is going to have to occur before they wake up?

65. Amazing that 60% would disapprove of
"Our duly elected President of the United States of America, our Commander-in-Chief , sworn to protect the liberties and freedoms that each and every one of us enjoys in this great God given land". Which is probably something like how they phrased the question.

73. I don't see what it really matters....
... He can't run again, he won't resign and the GOP won't impeach him... UNLESS his policies start to hurt GOP Congressmen and Senators.

Those are the only polls that matter right?

78. His numbers don't mean much, correct.
You have hit the nail on the head. Unless the unpopularity of
Bush costs the GOP big time in the 2006 or 2008 elections his poll numbers don't mean much. Only positive I can see is it will scrap a large portion of his warped legislative agenda.

80. Good thing for them that the Imperial Subjects o Amerika don't have a vote
or say in selecting the next Emperor.

We will all traipse off, push a bunch of meaningless buttons and lo and behold, whoever THE PARTY selected to placehold the throne between Bush Emperors, will "win".

President sinking in ratings

WASHINGTON - Americans' views of President Bush and his leadership have soured in the wake of dismay over the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, the course of the Iraq war and the future of the economy.

...

"Bush stands at a precipice," says Carroll Doherty of the non-- - - partisan Pew Research Center. "He's lost ground among independents. He seems to be starting to lose ground among his own party. And he lost the Democrats a long time ago."

...

White House press secretary Scott McClellan says the president "knows a leader must govern based on what he believes is right, not based on polls." Bush is "working to address the priorities that Americans are most concerned about," he says.

...

By more than 4-to-1, Americans want an independent panel - not Congress - to investigate the government's response to Katrina.

84. Bush is falling apart a lot sooner than expected...
or that I hoped for.

Now this must keep up till next fall and the Democrats need to take advantage of this. If things get really bad for Bush and the Dems do well we could see 240+ House Seats, 51+ Senate seats, 27+ Governorships, 55%+ of State Legislatures come to the Blue Side.

That is the moment I am living for.

I suppose Governor candidates can beat the crap out of Bush on the war issue since congress members cannot seem to figure out how to do it.

87. Bush is in Free Fall and his Crew knows it....his masters know it too....
They are desperately trying to clean his act...but this time, the price of previous BS comes to bear...hardly anyone believes his spin anymore....

4 days of waiting for the Leader to even find out(so they say) the horrid conditions in NO is hardly believable...either he is not watching the news(I canardly believe that)...or, he let those poor peeps suffer on purps....

Throwing money at the prob has always been their way out...but this time, money is not the answer...it was Leadership...and in this case, sorely absent....

Remember the limbo dance and song? "Limbo lower now...how low can you go?"

When he gets down to 30%, that's only self-identitified Republicans; any less and his base evaporates!!!!

It's time the rest of the world got out of limbo, if you catch my drift.

Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 03:50 PM by Straight Shooter
and if what he believes is right is what the majority of Americans thinks is wrong, the logical conclusion is that bush thinks he is smarter than the rest of us.

And we know that ain't right!

Say what you will, the man has "lucky" timing. No matter if his ratings dip to 10%, he's still president until 2009 and can, by executive orderand recess appointments, create a lot more mayhem..

but they have absolutely no idea why. I ask them to name one accomplishment for Bush in the last five years and they have nothing. I list all the failures, and they say nothing. I say "Worst president ever" and they try to mock me and say " yea right, worst president ever" but they got nothing...
