First Lady visits with hurricane refugees in Houston

HOUSTON First lady Laura Bush has been helping serve lunch today at a Texas shelter for Hurricane Katrina refugees.

She stopped at a downtown Houston shelter where more than 300 people are staying. Mrs. Bush also visited with some religious leaders, including representatives of the Muslim, Jewish and Christian faiths, at the city's convention center.

Mrs. Bush said the religious leaders must stay with the evacuees every step of the way, as they rebuild their lives.

One ten-year-old boy named Austin approached her and expressed disbelief she was the first lady. She told the child -- "I'm married to the president."

7. Give her more credit than that, she's the smart compassionate one
I would imagine that being so caring for "those" people she would have insisted on making them happy and served fried chicken, ribs, red soda, chiterlings and watermelon.

18. There's gotta be a remedy
for unwanted memories. I wonder if she's even aware that at least 1/2 the country is on to her little game?

23. Sickening - in order to eat, these people have to look at Pickles.
I doubt they could get any kind of crowd around her otherwise.

Love this line:

One ten-year-old boy named Austin approached her and expressed disbelief she was the first lady.

I don't believe it either, Austin!

26. Agreed...
This "popping in and out" crap is meaningless. Just another photo op, nothing more.
