Tons of British aid donated to help Hurricane Katrina victims to be BURNED
EXCLUSIVE: UP IN FLAMES
Tons of British aid donated to help Hurricane Katrina victims to be BURNED by Americans

From Ryan Parry, US Correspondent in New York

HUNDREDS of tons of British food aid shipped to America for starving Hurricane Katrina survivors is to be burned.

US red tape is stopping it from reaching hungry evacuees.

Instead tons of the badly needed Nato ration packs, the same as those eaten by British troops in Iraq, has been condemned as unfit for human consumption.

And unless the bureaucratic mess is cleared up soon it could be sent for incineration.

more, full story here (it's about the fourth story down, no direct link available)

4. this of course makes the US very popular abroad...
plenty of similar stories of refused help have gone round in Europe, different for different countries, different aid, but basically the same...

not to talk about the refused emergency rescue, which has probably costed hundreds of lives...

this lives in peoples memory. It's going to be interesting to see the European reaction the next time a disaster happens in the US...

until we have removed this usurper from the White House, please do everything you can to deal directly with the local City and State governments of the affected regions. Remember that our Secretary of State, when the offers of aid were pouring in to her office from all over the world and New Orleanians were drowning, was in New York City buying a pair $7000.00 shoes. Would a legitimately elected President murder by negligence thousands of Americans by allowing them to drown while he eats cake and plays air guitar?

That's why they've been turning away ALL material aid, and only accepting money. The Bush Mob is making money on this catastrophe. They always get their vig.

17. Well, this sends a strong message that the next time the US
is in need forget looking for outside aid. Once bitten, twice shy. The bush admin is burning the bridges for everyone in the United States by their incredibly gross behavior.

This kind of behavior is only adds to the already VERY negative feelings with regard to the United States, as long as bush and the repubs are in power, by the rest of the world, imo.

26. In the UK these ration packs retail at £9.99
which is about $17-18 at todays exchange rates.

http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/ishop/877/shopscr408.html

So 400,000 of them would be worth between $6-7 million dollars. They last for years so if the US government does not want them why do they simply not send them back. I am quite sure there are people in Britain who could use them.

39. That's got to be the lamest excuse yet
British Beef is rigorously tested for BSE these days and you can almost guarantee that there is 0% chance of infected beef entering the food chain. Besides, farmers over here stopped feeding dead sheep to the cows years ago.

Just tell the truth about this. The US is going to destroy this food because it was donated.

Next time the UK does something for the US we'll be sure to include an invoice.

41. Millions in Donated British Food Being Incinerated
From the British newspaper the Mirror. Millions of dollars worth of food donated by Britain for Katrina relief is about to be incinerated by the Feds because of some U.S. Dept. of Agriculture regulations. This is the same food the British serve to their troops (MRE-type meals apparently).
