Britain Defends Raid on Iraqi Jail
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050920/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_050920110260

BASRA, Iraq - British armored vehicles broke down the wall of a jail in the southern city of Basra during a raid to free two British soldiers later found elsewhere in the custody of local militiamen. Britain's defense minister on Tuesday defended the raid as "absolutely right."

British Defense Minister John Reid said laws under which the Iraqi government was given sovereignty in the summer of 2004 require that coalition forces detained by Iraqi authorities must be handed over to the U.S.-led multinational force.

Aquil Jabbar, an Iraqi television cameraman who lives across the street from the jail, said about 150 Iraqi prisoners fled as British commandos stormed inside to rescued their comrades. Iraqi and British officials said that was not true.

1. Yes and it's OK to kill those that report otherwise.
I think the Brits are about to learn a lesson in sovereignty.

3. So they couldn't just knock on the door and ask for the men?
So now that we know who the people are behind the car bombs (and I'm including the US here), I can pretty much confirm my suspicions that the Coalition dones't want a stable Iraq because they don't want to leave anytime soon. Have to make some use of all that money spent on 14 bases. And how many bases are we going to close here?

4. It is amazing how it seems all reporters and camermen lie......
and only the government officials tell the truth. In this incident the camerman was fibbing about 150 Iraqi prisoners escaping even though he lives right across the street.
