Giuliani Leads 2008 Republican White House Hopefuls

Rudy Giuliani

(Angus Reid Global Scan) – Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is the top presidential contender for GOP supporters in the United States, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 31 per cent of Republican voters would prefer Giuliani as the party’s nominee in 2008.

Arizona senator John McCain is second with 28 per cent, followed by current state secretary Condoleezza Rice with 19 per cent. 12 per cent of respondents would support other contenders or are undecided.

Giuliani garnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In 2000, McCain won seven Republican presidential primaries in the U.S., but retired from the race after eventual nominee George W. Bush became the frontrunner.

Rice is the second woman—after Madeleine Albright—and the second African-American—after Colin Powell—to serve as state secretary. She previously acted as the White House’s national security advisor during U.S. president George W. Bush’s first term in office.

19. Sorry, Rudy. You had you 15 minutes of fame. You're old news.
Have a good life somewhere else.

2. Gut reaction
Rice is not electable: too tainted with Iraq. The Mayor, on the other hand, will be a challenge.

We need a strong candidate!

10. I agree Al could do it
he's had some time to "get real" and become his own man. People respect that.

And the more we have of Bushco the more we yearn for the Clinton years. '08 might be just the time for Gore.

14. well, since he did win last time
maybe he would win again. Especially now that people have heard him speak and know him beyond the swiftboating that he received in 2000.

3. My money's on Chuck Hagel, former CEO of what became ES&S,
America's new secret government (in concert with Diebold and Sequoia, et al.) No chance for Dems until they form alliances with the secret government.

Not much fun guessing how it's going to be rigged.

4. Hagel? Hmmm. I know he has aspirations in that direction, but I don't
know if he has the support. Maybe if the Iraqi Freedom Fiasco keeps going down the dumper the republicans may find he an attractive candidate. And truth be told, between our republican senator (Hagel) and our democratic loser of a senator (Ben Nelson), I can stomach Hagel a lot easier. But I would never vote for him.

5. Faulty WTC fire inspections led to disaster.
Not enough fire retardants sprayed in the buildings. Many areas were thin on not covered at all. Gee who was the mayor???

Next candidate!

6. Time to find the clip of Rudolini blaming US soldiers for not guarding
the massive munitions dumps in Iraq at Al Quaa qua (spelling?), you know the munitions that were stolen and probably account for all the attacks subsequently against those same US soldiers. In reality they were following Rumsferatu's orders to march straight to the oil fields to guard them That was a fine Rudi moment, caught on tape. Also we might want to ask why Rudy said 'Thank God George Bush is President', and why his communications told people to go back into the towers, back to their desks before the towers fell. These little hitches might prove somewhat problematic for ol' Rudy.

21. Yes indeed. And Tommy Franks was oh so happy to go along ..
with Rumsfeld's idiotic concept. Left 500 tons of HE unguarded, quickly grabbed the Baghdad Airport, and hauled ass before the war had even begun. Franks' cowardly leadership earned him a Freedom Medal, an award designated for civilians. Unbelievable.

Not a chance Ghouliani will get the neocon nod. The fundies are easily-manipulated, but they will never go for Rudy.

11. Agree Midwest
He'll do as well as other New York pro-choicers once the primaries start.

Maybe he can ask President Rockefeller and President Lindsey the best way to do it.

18. I'd like to see the Catholic bishops deny HIM communion
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 09:58 AM by StopThePendulum
He's pro-choice, supports same-sex marriage, and is divorced and remarried.

If he can receive, but Dems can't, it just goes to show the denial-of-communion thing has little to do with canon law and a lot to do with politics.

22. Nobody benefitted from 9-11 like him
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 11:22 AM by PurityOfEssence
He was rather disliked and at the end of his term; in fact, that day was the primary election in which he couldn't run. Playing the moment well, he is now a national figure.
