http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?S=3877445"Middletown Mayor Domenique Thornton made the short walk from her office to the courthouse with her lawyers by her side and a smile on her face. That smile was even bigger when the mayor emerged from court about 15 minutes later.
"I told everyone I was innocent, I'm a woman of my word and now Superior Court has found that I'm absolutely innocent," says Thornton.
The mayor was stopped by a Middletown police officer last week. The officer said Thornton was driving erratically and according to police, the mayor failed a field sobriety test, but a breathalyzer test measured her blood alcohol at less than .02 well below the legal limit of .08. In court, prosecutors said without the scientific evidence they'd have a tough time proving the charges at trial.
"They reviewed the file thoroughly, completely, and in their opinion, they'd have no cause to continue this prosecution," says the mayor’s attorney Carl Fortuna."
As someone with some familiarity with this it is clearly an account of politically motivated police abuse. Good for her.
