GOP Trying to Snuff Out Iraqi Loans Idea

WASHINGTON - The White House predicted Wednesday that a final $87 billion measure for Iraq and Afghanistan won't make the Iraqi rebuilding aid a loan, despite signs of continued support for the idea in Congress.

"I don't think that that provision will be in the final language," White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters as President Bush flew from Singapore to Bali on one of the last legs of his Asian trip. "It's very clear that it sends the wrong message."

McClellan said lending money to Iraq would make it harder for the United States to attract foreign contributions at an international donors' conference in Spain this week, and add billions to Iraq's already huge pile of foreign debt.

The statement came as nine House Democrats who have backed Bush's request for funds - including the No. 2 House Democratic leader, Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland - pressed the administration to release a detailed plan that would state U.S. goals in Iraq and the estimated timetable and price tag.

1. To that I say yes, it is to much to ask.

We broke it, we need to fix it. We need to take responsibility for our actions. It has not been shown to be anything more than a lie by the current administration, the war in Iraq. I don't like the idea of having to pay for the war and it will hurt financially, but we broke it, we need to fix it. Making it a loan and putting the burden on Iraq is wrong. I do like the idea that Chenney and Halliburton may have to wait to get paid for their illegal war though.

Man you really swallowed the bate and the hook! We did not break it! Bush broke it using our tax dollars and now he wants more tax dollars to pay his freinds to fix it.

That's a make work program for Haliburton et. al. who didn't even have to bid for the jobs. They knew going in what the plan was.

2. This money will go directly to the big contractors

...like Bechtel and Halliburton. The reason they don't like loans is because without loans it is only a one way swindle because there will be mortgages on the properties and they won't be able to "acquire" them through privatization for pennies on the dollar after they "build" them at exorbitant prices. Crooked republican contractors like the two way swindle better than the one way swindle.

To the well meaning liberals out there who support the occupation, we aren't going to "fix" anything in Iraq.

4. Why don't we just save time and money and give Cheney

a check for $22 billion to deliver to Halliburton. Then we can declare Iraq "fixed" and come home.

...we will begin actively seeking their removal from office via any means necessary, should they vote for Iraqi's needs over the needs of America's families, kids, seniors, small business owners, et al.
