Iraq: Blair studying early 'exit ticket'

Iraq: Blair studying early 'exit ticket':-

This week's furious anti-British protests in the southern Iraqi port town of Basra have increased pressure on Prime Minister Tony Blair to produce an "exit strategy" from Iraq.

Blair, who has refrained from public comment on the riots that followed the military rescue of two British soldiers from a Basra jail, was well aware that disquiet over the Iraq involvement was growing in his ruling Labour Party, analysts said.

Unlike in previous years, when the party management had been able to keep criticism of the Iraq war away from the main conference floor, delegates at next week's Labour Party conference were expecting their leader to hint at plans for bringing the troops home.

"It is time for Iraq to be properly and fully debated at the Labour conference," MP Harry Cohen said.
