Banned senators vow to return
By Peter Jean
October 23, 2003

AUSTRALIAN Greens senators Bob Brown and Kerry Nettle were ordered out of Parliament today, after interrupting United States President George W. Bush.

But they refused to go and plan to defy a 24-hour ban by attending Chinese President Hu Jintao's address to Parliament tomorrow.

Some government MPs tried to physically prevent the Greens senators from approaching Mr Bush after he addressed Parliament.

Several Labor MPs protested silently during Mr Bush's speech.

Labor backbencher Harry Quick wore a white armband, some Labor MPs wore peace dove badges, and the Greens wore pictures of the Australian prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.

3. What a great name!
It's a delightfully brilliant handle.

Was anyone else hoping that nobody had the addresses so they wouldn't have to write anything? I can't be the only one.

I don't follow this logic. So you're sayin' they should basically tell America to fuck off too because we gave 'them' Bush? Albeit for a short time and he was protested DURING that time. But still none the less he was down there for a day.

9. Wearing pitctures and armbands--that's interrupting?
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 09:30 AM by rocknation
Shouting at or talking over Bush while he was speaking, or getting up and walking out--THAT'S "interrupting". They didn't interrupt, they protested silently. The reporter makes it sound like they'd set themselves on fire!

10. They did interrupt, and that's why I just thanked them
They interrupted three times, forcing bush to stop speaking (It's been all over the news here). Anyway, it was just nice to see someone standing up to the unelected turd.

11. It took me less than two minutes
To write to them both.

This is what I said:

As a U.S. citizen who cares not for our current president, I commend you on your protest of Mr. Bush. He was not a fairly elected president, and has been abysmal in his so-called administration of our government since his residency began. Bravo to you and your fellow politicians who have stood up against him!!!

Two out, two down. I hope these messages give the Senators more courage and fortitude, knowing that the world is behind them.
