Circuit court denies relief for pharmacists
Druggists must adhere to governor's rule on emergency contraception
By DOUG FINKE, STATE CAPITOL BUREAU

A Sangamon County judge Thursday refused to block a rule from Gov. Rod Blagojevich requiring Illinois pharmacies to dispense emergency contraceptives.

Judge John Belz denied the request for a temporary restraining order filed by two pharmacists who said they are morally opposed to dispensing the so-called "morning after" pill.

Too bad Christian Reich Neocon Pharmacists!

However, the IL gov has some of the worst gov approval ratings in the nation right now. See: http://www.surveyusa.com/50State2005/50StateGovernorApproval0905SortedbyNetApproval.htm

I'm sure the Christian Reich will pour tons of $$$ into IL to turn that state over to the GOP in the Gov column. IL is one of the few states that holds a Dem gov and was blue in the Pres. election.

The GOP HATES that the land of Lincoln is blue.

Truth be told, there are a LOT of rural IL residents that are hardcore red. I couldn't count the number of Alan Keyes signs I saw when I drove through the rural areas before the '04 election.

Without the Chicago area, IL would be ruled by the GOP.

If Blagojevich falls in '06 then look for the new GOP gov (probably Ray LaHood) to give the pharmacists their way.

Enjoy this small victory for now.

1. How novel ...
Requiring pharmacists to do their job without imposing THEIR moral values on everyone else.

2. The new law is very well written
if a pharmacy wants to sell contraceptives, they must sell ALL contraceptives. Simple.

3. if they are unwilling to do their job - get another a job
there job is service and their company provides that product. If they don't like the product or the services they are paid to provide - they need to go some where else.

5. Pharmacists are well-trained to do their jobs of dispensing meds
but allowing them to determine a patient's medical treatment is practicing medicine without a license and they should be prosecuted for it.

6. Medical professionals who find "moral objections" to their job...
should find some other line of work. What next? Firefighters demanding the right to let the homes of "heretics" burn down because their religion orders them not to help non-believers?

7. I can't think of anyone who really likes Blago.
I mean, he's more or less ignored the Rock River Valley (where I'm from), and pissed alot of people off by not moving to Springfield after he was elected.

9. Thanks neocons for tying up our courts with your idiocy
I'm a vegetarian, so I think I'll get a job at McD's and then refuse to sell Double Quarter pounders with cheese because I'm morally opposed to them.

I thought the GOP was opposed to frivolous lawsuits (like malpractice) -- or was that only when it didn't benefit them?

10. Keyes didn't get half the vote in Ill
the state may have a lot of red but they aren't complete lunatics. Who knows what Blag will do? Don't love him but don't hate him. The Illinois GOP are a horrible bunch. They eat their own for breakfast lunch and dinner and are incredibly corrupt. It will be interesting to say the least.
