Bush: Government Well-Prepared for Rita

The Associated Press

President Bush tracked Hurricane Rita's march on Saturday from an Air Force base in the Rocky Mountain foothills, getting reports on flooding, search and rescue efforts and damage caused by the storm more than 1,000 miles away.

"It comforts me knowing that our federal government is well-organized and well-prepared to deal with Rita," Bush said. "The first order of business now is search and rescue teams _ to pull people out of harm's way."

Bush warned those evacuated from coastal areas to be careful about returning home.

"The situation is still dangerous because of potential flooding," the president said. "It's important for them to listen carefully to the local authorities about whether or not it is safe for them to return back to their homes. It's going to take awhile for the authorities on the ground to fully understand the impact of the flooding."

3. I wonder how many New Orleans survivors will be watching what
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 11:42 AM by calimary
happened in Texas with - um... shall we say - jaundiced eyes?

Maybe we  can assist with that a little...

Maybe a casual remark while you're standing in the checkout line (with or without the National Enquirer present) or some such place: "gee, funny how he can sort of get it together when it comes to Texas, isn't it, hmmm...?"

Or maybe "hmmm... well, he was certainly there for TEXAS, wasn't he..."

Or with a tinge of anger: "Gee, george, nice of you to get off your 'compassionate conservative' butt for Texas, didntcha?"

Or "oh, MAN... if he'd only done this for New Orleans... (sigh...shake head in discouragement and disgust...)."

Or with a trace of disgusted sarcasm: "Hah. Woulda been nice if he'd done something like this for all those people in New Orleans, huh?"

We now have TWO prime examples. They go all out for Florida (hmmm... wonder why THAT is...) and Texas (hmmm... wonder why THAT is...).

Once the pot starts boiling, you MUST NOT step away for a minute or so. If you don't keep stirring what's now boiling in there, it'll get stuck to the bottom and get burned, and the recipe will be ruined.

The last thing we want people to do is to forget what happened and what he DID NOT DO. This DOES NOT MAKE IT ALL BETTER, george. This doesn't change ANYTHING, or absolve you of ANYTHING. You STILL have to answer for your shit-ass bad management, FUCKED policies, incompetence, and criminal negligence.

Manipulate people's thinking a little. The "aw, just give him the benefit of the doubt" crap is SO OVER. What should we do when he finds himself in a leaky boat - back off so he can bail for awhile because you assume he's already sunk, or snorkel underneath and drill another hole in the bottom?

Plant the seeds.

Poison the well.

6. Which is an admission of guilt over Katrina
Bush is making press statements on the damage, talking about the federal first response to Rita, even giving damage assessments.

And why, exactly, did he not do that with Katrina? How many people died because it took him two hurricanes to learn his job?

There is no hell deep enough for that man or ANY of his supporters.

11. Exactly. It exposes the LIE of "not FEMA's job" during Katrina.
The NOLA PD lost over 550 vehicles to Katrina - but were supposed to cope? The NOLA PD personnel were 80% homeless due to Katrina - but were supposed to cope? The NOLA PD lost all communications, half their substations and 25% of their personnel - but were supposed to cope?

The GOP policy of "blame the victims" is a policy of crimes against humanity.

8. No gain in polls:
I do not wish to offend anyone by my following comment, but with the levee breaking in the 9th ward area of New Orleans, Bushit cannot make much inroads in saying he is on top of the Hurricane Rita situation. The flooding again of the 9th ward area will only remind people throughout this country how Bushit and his un qualified people were so un-prepared for Katrina. Plus, Hurrican Rita came ashore in La. and not Texas. Again a reminder. A reporter should raise the question if the Bushiveks get too self congraulatory on how they were ready for Rita by asking. Should not Bush, FEMA, Homeland Security been on top of situation before, during and after Hurricane Katrina as Hurricane Rita?

9. Bush: Out of Gas
Let him tell the thousands stranded on evacuation routes without gas.
What a wonderful job. Evacuate a city and not have gas in Texas.

10. I think it is pretty plain to see now
that they will lay the troubles in N.O. at the feet of the state government. Isn't the mayor of N.O. a Democrat?

14. How can they compare different hurricanes?
One was an enormous catastrophe, the other a large destructive storm. It seems to me that the prep was a little better and more coordinated but shouldn't it have been? And face it, the Houston evacuation was not well planned. So now they can continue picking up the bodies again in NOLA.
