IAEA adopts resolution on Iran's nuclear program
The UN atomic watchdog adopted by vote Saturday an EU proposal that sets Iran up for referral to the UN Security Council, a spokesman said, in what would be a sharp escalation of the West's face-off with the Islamic Republic.

The vote was by 22-1, with 12 abstentions on the 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA spokesman Peter Rickwood told reporters.

2. What? I just read that they wouldn't do that!
This is ridiculous. Russia and China will veto any sanction and there is no reason to take this to the SC.

It's no secret why Bush needed Bolton at the UN so urgently.

3. do not make a superficial judgment
Do not jump to conclusions...Mohamed El Baradei, head of the IAEA, is an honorable man, and one of the few who stated loudly and clearly before the Iraq War that there were no WMD in Iraq. He is held in contempt by the Bush administration and they have been trying to get him booted from office. Do not misjudge this action.

4. Iran to be reported to Security Council
The UN nuclear watchdog has passed a resolution requiring that Iran be reported to the Security Council at an unspecified date over its failure to show its nuclear programme was entirely peaceful.

The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) governing board approved it despite Iranian threats to begin enriching uranium if the resolution, drafted by the EU's three biggest powers and backed by the US, was passed.

Both countries fear a UN referral will cause the standoff over Iran's programme to escalate into an international crisis.

The resolution, which diplomats said was prepared in close consultation with Washington, says Iran's "many failures and breaches" of its nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) Safeguards Agreement "constitute non-compliance" with the pact.

The trap seems to be irresistible.
