‘Bush a greater threat than Laden’

Large majorities in Arab countries view the US President George W Bush as a greater threat than the Al Qaeda supremo Osama Bin Laden, a media report said on Saturday.

“The Advisory Committee on Cultural Diplomacy” under the US State Department cited a poll that found that large majorities in Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia view Bush as a greater threat to the world order than Osama bin Laden.

The Congressionally-mandated panel, in a report, also warned the Department that “America’s image and reputation abroad could hardly be worse.”

...

The report, which has been seen by senior officials but not yet officially released, said that a fact-finding mission to the Middle East last year found that “there is deep and abiding anger toward US policies and actions.”

9. Bush 'greater threat than bin Laden'
From: Agence France-Presse

A PANEL reporting to the US State Department has warned that US President George W. Bush is seen in some Arab nations as a greater threat than al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, a US newspaper reported today.

The report by the congressionally mandated advisory panel, which found that "America's image and reputation abroad could hardly be worse", has been seen by senior officials but not yet released publicly, The Washington Post said.
A fact-finding mission to the Middle East last year found that "there is deep and abiding anger toward US policies and actions", according to The Post.

The Advisory Committee on Cultural Diplomacy cited polls that found that large majorities in Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia "view George W. Bush as a greater threat to the world order than Osama bin Laden".

Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy Karen Hughes, a longtime presidential adviser, prepares to leave this weekend on a "listening tour" of the Middle East.

The panel's report warns that televised images of US policy choices - such as in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the invasion of Iraq - reverberate across the Arab media and will "long haunt the image of the United States", the paper said.>>>>.snip

14. True or False
The greatest terrorist of them all is *. In the reform to Free Cannabis, I am fond to say that we have to make allegations.

Is George * the planet's greatest terrorist?

It sure ain't Saddam. The anti-Empire movement is here and it is worldwide. The SCO with China, India, and Russia will out war us on the cheap with more deadly weapons. Besides that there are two many hands in the till and the country is broke. Military spending has ruined the country and the world.

I say * is the greatest terrorist of them all. Who do you think is the world's greatest terrorist. I was honest with you. Now be honest with me.

15. I'd call that realistic. Bush has enough WMDs to destroy everyone.
Something bin Laden never will. Karen is bumping her head up against a solid brick wall of reality on this one.

18. You're wrong on that
The Hughes "listening tour" will be immediately followed by her report to whomever that "the world loves us". Unfortunately, that lie will be the reality for those too stupid to live.

19. It's really a shame
That the voice of the people of morocco, egypt and saudi arabia can have their opinion that bush is more dangerous than terrorists, but 60%+ of america won't ever get that press coverage.

20. And it's not just the Middle East that's fed up.

The Congressionally-mandated panel, in a report, also warned the Department that “America’s image and reputation abroad could hardly be worse.”

In modern times, occasions arise when one or several countries choose to ‘shun’ another nation as a way of trying to influence a change in that nation’s behaviour. Think of the United States’ embargo on Cuba, sanctions levied against bad actors by the United Nations (like Libya, Iraq), Canadian sanctions against South Africa, eventually adopted by most of the British Commonwealth. That last example is a model of what can be accomplished with international condemnation; although the world’s sanctions against Apartheid cannot claim full credit for the turnaround in South Africa, it was a powerful incentive to those who sought to bring about changes there.

This is an article about the United States of America. From the outset, let me state clearly that there is tremendous credit due to the US for a wide variety of social, humanitarian, artistic, scientific, intellectual accomplishments. But this small group of people, ruled by an even smaller group of thugs (a kleptocracy), is truly the epitome of the ‘tail-wagging-the-dog’ syndrome. The US comprises a small fraction of the world but it sees all the rest of the world – and, for emphasis, ALL the rest of the world – as its servant, its supplier of cheap goods and labour, its warehouse, its flea market, the place to play with its guns.

Both Canada and Mexico can reasonably think of the United States as our best friend. But it is also our worst enemy. Indeed, I will argue here that the United States is the enemy of ALL nations. It may be a little tougher for Canada and Mexico because the Beast lives next door, but also a little easier because at least they haven’t sent in the troops. Yet.

<snip>

Many outside the US have waited patiently for them to outgrow their juvenile delinquency, but they show no sign of maturing. We have waited patiently for the good citizens of the US to corral the bad, but they persist in failing to do so. And now that they are acting out again and threatening the peace and security of the entire planet, it is high time that the rest of us took matters into our own hands.

The rest of the world should join hands and shun the United States.

22. You are so right,, Johnny Canuck
My political acumen is not a sharp as it could be but in my 61+ years on this planet, I cannot think of any other time or any other president in the history of this country when both Canada and Mexico (not to mention the rest of the world) are, or should be, offended by the lump of protoplasm in our White House. The trouble with us non-Republicans is that we are not lemmings - we think for ourselves. Consequently, we have many divisions and factions amongst ourselves.
