Lake Livingston Dam to release water
In a development reminiscent of post-Katrina levee breaks in New Orleans, the Trinity River Authority Saturday announced an emergency release of water from the Lake Livingston Dam due to Hurricane Rita.

The result of extra water release from the dam 75 miles northeast of Houston will be flooding in the lower Trinity River valley from the dam to where it empties into Galveston Bay, including the area between Liberty and Dayton.

Officials estimate hundreds of homes will be affected and a spokesman said residents of low-lying homes below the dam should “expect a flood similar to that of June 2001” when Tropical Storm Allison dumped massive rains on the region.

2. Either release the water
Or Lake Livington floods. Or worse yet, the dam goes.
