Bush presents sharply different image in response to hurricane Rita

...

From San Antonio and Austin in Texas, to Baton Rouge in Louisiana, Bush visited command centres in the region all weekend and touted good relations with local and state officials in a bid to bolster his battered image.

...

But some analysts say Bush's response this time, though an improvement, won't help him climb from his lowest-ever approval ratings.

...

"This weekend is not going to move the needle," Gergen told CNN. "He's not going to come up in the polls. He's got a long, long way out of this."

....

"It's done damage to what is the stem and stern of the Bush presidency," Fox News host Juan Williams said Sunday, "which is his leadership.
"What you're going to see here is people holding this president responsible for this event when the government did not intervene to help people at a time of great need."

1. Stem and stern?
My question is when was Bush ever a great leader? I never saw it.

14. but... the metaphor ain't quite right...
The hell? "From stem to stern" is a metaphor meaning "the entire length." It's like Faux snooze saying, "the top to bottom of the Bush administration has been... Zzzzzzzz" Besides, Bush's stem hasn't been stern since he found jesus and (reluctantly) gave up his cocaine fetish. Faux snooze. Count on those tits to completely f*ck up even the simplest manner of communication, much like their beloved fuhrer. As for leadership, <insert scathingly evil series of ear-blistering naval vernacular here>, that brain-damaged simian couldn't stick his thumb up his own ass with written directions and a point in the right direction from Dick "Ignore the man behind the curtain" Cheney. And speaking of Cheney, by my count, he's fresh out of lives. The next heart problem's gonna send him straight to hell where he'll share the satanic honeymoon suite with saddam hussein, as soon as the new Iraqi puppet regime gets round to hanging him. Sorry. Had to vent the spleen.

24. His brain is about to retire.
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 10:24 PM by NCevilDUer
Kidney stones, then an aneurism. They're building up for a retirement on health grounds.

Appoint a new VP, who will the the annointed choice for '08. Whoever it is will have two years feet on the ground going into the election.

EDIT
Ya know, that's where Ford came from. VP forced out, Ford appointed VP, Nixon quits, Ford moves up and appoints yet another new VP. Ford then runs in '76.

26. That's right.
I blame the late hour, which feels all the later for my being sick all week.

I do get confused when talking about the man with two brains (both of them borrowed).

4. Hey Shrubbie:
Instead of always trying to improve your IMAGE, why don't you try improving your ACTIONS? Why don't you behave like a president, instetad of trying to "look presidential". Why don't you get off your frickin' bike, turn off the cartoons, and do some actual "presidenting"??????

Oh hell, better yet, why don't you just go back to Crawford and quit bothering us!

5. From the photos...
I've seen (not by choice, mind you), he looks really pissed, grumpy, tired, & old. I guess he's pissed that he had to work one weekend in 4 1/2 years... Time for another vacation.

15. He can't even ACT like a good president
He doesn't have talent in that area, IMO. But, I could never understand what people saw in him. The only emotion other than revulsion I ever felt at the sight of him was pity.
I never got Reagan either, he just always seemed like a big joke to me and I wondered what it was people liked.

17. the medium is the message....
im not sure exactly what the hell that means, but it seems to be mcluhan's warning (or simple his stating) that however a story or concept is packaged determines its effect; with the effect in turn misrepresented, in an ever spiraling vortex of slanted reporting leaving a final result which says outright nonsense....the bushevik newmedia therefore simply ignore anything in their promotion of certain ideas...reagan has never been that popular, but a massive disinfo campaign funded by taxmoney has created the bushit that he was....even during the landslide victory in '84 less then 1/2 eligible voters actually voted, and reagan barely beat the other guy (who was that, osama? saddam? who was that guy?)...common sense indicates that NO ONE the rightwing republicans run can possibly win a fair election, as the majority vote their wallets and the majority of citizens are one month away from being homeless (says gov statistics)... the false premise that is carefully maintained is that a 'activist' ratwing minority somehow dominate usa (or any western society where busheviks/nazipoos run around free) politics...that's simply impossible, as only fools love corporate pigs, and their destruction of every society they get power in is witnessed by history.....the dsm story, or the gopig multiple 18181 vote wins in '02 cogressionals tell you the simple truth- the media rules the roost (or is that sty?)
lol:)

7. It probably won't have the desired effect on public opinion...
In fact, it could have the opposite effect. Most average people will see this is as cynical overcompensation for his indifference toward Katrina. People will know he's trying to work them for political gain and therefore not go for it.

and is putting us in more debt borrowing. Now he can't handle American emegencys.

I've heard r-wing coworkers say they believe the gov should help nobody during disasters. Every person should help themselves and the gov should give no aid for lost homes.

I have a feeling that's the typical r-wing point of view.

Georgie can pretend to care but even if some of America buys it, 2/3rds know the financial crisis were in.

I believen his ratings will continue to go down.

The only thing to justify his humongous spending is another terrorist attack on American soil.

There have always been terrorists plotting and being stopped at attacks on America. All GW has to do is ignore another warning and let one happen again.

Then his spending will be "justified" and his ratings will go up securing another republican president "to protect us" after GW's term.

He's always ruled by fear. I don't think people are afraid right now. His regime is a pro at fixing that.

And visit "command centers" in Austin & San Antonio?

His planned pre-hurricane visit to Houston was canceled. Perhaps our Mayor told him to shove it--he was busy.

His "presidential-like" behavior isn't fooling anyone. He's the ex-governor of Texas, nothing like showing favoritism.
