Gunmen kill 5 teachers in Iraq primary school

HILLA, Iraq, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Gunmen killed five Shi'ite primary school teachers and a driver in a school in Iskandariya, south of Baghhdad on Monday, a spokesman for Babel police said.

"These men were terrorists in police uniform," the spokesman told Reuters.

He said the gunmen arrived at the school in two civilian cars, led the teachers and the school driver to a part of the school where no children were present, and shot them.

8. So how do you tell the difference?
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 09:52 AM by Nihil
i.e., between the "terrorists in police uniform" who kill innocent
people and the "policemen in police uniform" who kill innocent people?

Must be the same sort of difference that there is between the American
soldiers who kill innocent people and the Iraqi soldiers who kill
innocent people ...

(Edit for typo)

10. American soldiers don't go around trying to kill innocent people
while the terrorists do.

I hope that helps.

12. But why are you arguing with me on this website?
You should take your POV straight to the source, say, to the nearest US military base. Go to the mess hall, and tell everyone present that you believe that American soldiers target innocent civilians. Then come back to these boards, and let us know how it went.

13. Oh come on... so (way over) 100.000 dead Iraqi civilians were
GUILTY??? Give me a break.

And I was not arguing with you, really... And I certainly wouldn't argue with a brainwashed soldateska in their mess hall, sorry :) After what we heard of those two British soldiers, and Abu Ghuraib (and after knowing what went on at Operation Gladio etc. etc.), we cannot believe anything anymore. To me it seems to be clear that the US and Great Britain are trying their damndest to funnel the "insurgence".

Sorry, but I don't think US soldiers are all good boys.

39. Ah ... so it hinges on the word "trying" does it?
Which means that if the "terrorists" are merely "trying to kill people
in uniform but killing civilians" then they're no more terrorists
than the American soldiers who are simply "trying to kill people
without a uniform (but killing civilians ... without uniforms)" ...
ummm ...?

Nope, still didn't help ... but there again maybe it's the situation
that is inexplicable rather than the lack of excuses.

We - the international network using community - can't tell exactly
what happened in a jail under the full control, video surveillance and
guard of the US army.

We - the international network using community - can't tell exactly
what happened in a town under the nominal control, surveillance and
guard of the British army.

What chance do you really think that we - the international network
using community - can work out exactly what happened in a school in
the middle of a multiway civil war complicated by two invading nations
and the partisan media?

14. Disguised insurgents gun down 5 Shiite teachers at Iraqi elementary school
Disguised insurgents gun down 5 Shiite teachers at Iraqi elementary school

Updated at 16:25 on September 26, 2005, EST.

BAGHDAD (AP) - Insurgents dragged five Shiite Muslim schoolteachers and their driver into a classroom, lined them against a wall and gunned them down Monday; slayings in Iraq's notorious Triangle of Death that reflect the enflamed sectarian divisions ahead of a crucial constitutional referendum.

The shooting was a rare attack on a school amid Iraq's relentless violence, and it was particularly stunning since the gunmen targeted teachers in a school where the children were mainly Sunnis. Elsewhere Monday, a suicide attack and roadside bombings killed 10 Iraqis and three Americans, bringing to at least 52 the number of people killed in the past two days.

The Iraqi and U.S. governments have warned that Sunni Arab insurgents are likely to increase their attacks ahead of the Oct. 15 national referendum.

Shiite leaders have called on their followers to refrain from revenge attacks against Sunnis, fearing a civil war could result, though Sunnis have accused Shiite militias of carrying out some killings of Sunni figures.

But in one of the first public calls for individual Shiites to take action, a prominent Shiite cleric, Ayatollah Mohammed al-Yaaqubi, issued a religious edict Monday allowing his followers to "kill terrorists before they kill."

18. I'd hate to think that - but I put nothing past them. What better way to
rekindle the love-fest for war than to have teachers gunned down in the classroom. Hell, might even legitimize torture in the eyes of some. We must stay the course!

And there are a few things concerning this incident which don't make sense, such as it happening in a school attended mainly by Sunni students.

33. Do you actually think these guys are all insurgents?
As has been stated before, there are three groups at work in Iraq today.

1. The actual insurgents who are fighting the US occupation. These are the guys who blow up our convoys and kidnap our contractors.

2. Religious zealots. There are a LOT of people in the ME who see this as an opportunity to transform Iraq into the theocratic state of their fantasies. One of the requirements for this goal, however, is to rid the nation of the "unbelievers".

Sunni's see Shiites the same way fundamentalist Baptists see Catholics. Just as many fundie Baptists refuse to consider Catholics Christians and refer to us as "pagan Mary worshippers", the Sunni's see the Shiite as a non-Muslim sect that "pollutes" their idea of a perfect Muslim nation.

3. Criminals. We tend to overlook these guys, but there is a HUGE criminal element in Iraq that doesn't really care about either side. Like most mafia, they want their bribes, protection money, and ransoms, and they want people to fear them. If you fail to pay off, your loved one is found dead on a river bank, a "misplaced insurgent bomb" may go off in front of your house, or a "random" stray bullet might cut you down on your way to work.

There is, of course, some overlap between the groups, but it could have been any of these three groups that executed these teachers. My money is on #2 or #3

You think those Busheviks would hesitate a minute to kill kids? After all, they've murdered so many of them already.

"Disguised"... my ass!

In truth, we can never know,. now that our government and media are as corrupt and vile as the Soviet Union.

Thus, we are left to our own speculations in the absence of the Instiutions of the Free World, which Imperial Amerika no longer has, except in a flaccid and vestigial form.

37. Simple Fact:
After the disguised Brits in Basra nobody known nothing for sure.

You're right...hate to say it but it's just like the last line from the movie that defines labarathine government corrupution:

"Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."

(Meaning: You can't ever know what's really going on in the deepest black ops, you can't change anything no matter what you do, and if you try...you, and possibly others, are going to wake up dead.)

38. Need oil,
so need excuse to stay in Iraq. The one excuse people, including Australians, accept for continued involvment is civil strife which supposedly needs Western supervision. So we've gotta keep up the strife there.

I would have loved to join the SAS if I'd been a guy. Thought it was all about brilliantly trained heroes defending the world from evil. Thinking of the way guys who must have joined with similar principles are used these days makes me sick at heart.
