WASHINGTON - Former FEMA director Michael Brown said Monday he should have sought help faster from the Pentagon after Hurricane Katrina hit, and accused state and local officials of constant infighting during the crisis, according to congressional aides.

Brown is continuing to work at the Federal Emergency Management Agency at full pay, with his Sept. 12 resignation not taking effect for two more weeks, said Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke.

Brown spoke to congressional aides from both parties a day before he is scheduled to testify in front of a special House committee investigating the government's response to the Aug. 29 disaster. He did not respond to several calls for response Monday........

.....He also described Blanco as "indecisive" and refusing to cede control of the Louisiana National Guard to federal authorities because "it would have undercut her image politically," the document said.

Spokespeople for Blanco and Nagin could not be immediately reached Monday night.

10. Okay, a few points

One--Has he never dealt with politicians before, that he didn't expect there to be conflicts between state and local politicians? This just again shows his lack of qualifictions.

Two--he didn't lie on his resume. He was hired by a close friend (Albaugh) who knew his history, and had worked with him long enough to see he had no qualifications for the job. There was nothing to lie about on the resume. They ought to investigate Joe Albaugh, and consider charging him with fraud for recommending a friend with no qualifications.

Three--Saying that FEMA could become a crutch for state and local officials during times of crisis just points out how the ideologies of idiots is destroying this nation. FEMA exists because state and local officials can only go so far in becoming experts on emergency management. Thus, we all hire experts to handle emergencies, and we pay for those experts with our tax dollars, and call them FEMA, and those experts are supposed to spend their time developing plans for what to do in any given emergency. Waiting for an emergency, winging it, and then blaming the state and local officials for not knowing what to do is NOT what we pay them for. Using Brown neocon logic, none of us should expect the electricians we hire to know more about wiring our houses than we do, and if they do the job wrong and the house burns, it's our fault.

Four--we saw what should have been done, with Rita. They can never again claim it wasn't their job, because we saw that it was.

Five--of course the governor wasn't going to turn control of the few National Gaurd troops she actually had over to Browne. He couldn't even order buses without screwing up, why would anyone let him control armed military personnel?

Six--everything Browne says after "I screwed up" is just CYA.

I could make more points, but they'd mostly be profanity at Brown, Chertoff and Bush.

12. Right. How many times did he prove himself to either be a liar or

clueless or a combo of both? The first few days after Katrina hit, he was out in public talking about how wonderful everything was going over and over again.

How could anyone give him any credibility?

It is beyond me but I'm sure we will hear a lot of it tomorrow from Repubs.
