Palm Beach law keeps protesters farther from only abortion clinic
Associated Press

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Anti-abortion protesters are prohibited from demonstrating within 20 feet of the driveways of an abortion clinic damaged in a suspicious fire, according to a new ordinance approved by city commissioners.

The Presidential Women's Center is the only Palm Beach County clinic to perform abortions.

The buffer and a second measure prohibiting "amplified sound" and "unnecessary noise" within 100 feet of the clinic also apply to all other medical facilities in the city.

Mayor Lois Frankel said the ordinance that commissioners approved Monday "should have been done a long time ago. I'm just glad it got passed before somebody got hurt."

2. The farther the better
I've had to run the gamut of these psychos and it ain't pretty. At the least they are yelling whore slut and murderous, and at worst they are murdering doctors, nurses and office workers. They are true terrorists. But we don't hear much about that, do we?

6. I liked the way Reno applied RICO laws to Operation Rescue
It ultimately bankrupted the organization, which was causing a lot of trouble at the time.

8. I'm not sure about that....
Reno assigned federal marshals and "buffer zones" were inforced But the RICO lawsuit was initiated by NOW in the 80's against blockaders (this was before the buffer zone and creation of the free speech zone). The case went back and forth including Federal trials to determine whether RICO could be applied.

Operation Rescue lost the case in 1998 after it was decided RICO could apply by lower courts.

However, this was appealed to the SCOTUS and they ruled that that RICO could not be applied (8 to 1).

4. Those people are evil, if not evil, mentally ill
shouting things like that and murdering clinic workers.

As you say, they are true terrorists.

And most of these assholes would say they are doing it in the name in the Lord.

Nice how people use religion as an excuse to be abusive assholes, isn't it? Same shit, different century.

5. It's hard to envision a religious faith
that okays murdering people. I've heard stories from NARAL, etc that just turned my stomach. Poisoning and killing pets of clinic employees, vandalizing their homes and cars..one clinic director (this was quite a few years ago, so I cannot give you a source, but it did happen) had her son kidnapped by some anti-choice terrorists for a few hours. They harangued him about how evil his mother was. Thank God, they let him go unharmed. But who knows, next time...

7. Remember, this is the same body of law that restricts anti-war protestors
"Free Speech Zones" are not only for anti-bush protests. All too often, I see people on DU calling for the elimination of such constraints without looking at the consequences for women's health clinics.

"Protests are still permitted beyond the 20-foot zone, but the president of an anti-abortion group said the ordinance violates the right to free speech."

Well, there it is, the same damn argument in a nutshell.

9. Yes, but 20 feet
at an abortion clinic does not equate to 2 miles for an anti-Bush demonstration. The first is allowing free speech, the second is suppressing it, because the object of the free speech is forced to hear it in the first instance, but not in the second. Lets have a 20 foot free speech zone for Bush.

10. They are thugs and tamperers, not "protestors"
Don't dignify them with a dignified name.
