TALLAHASSEE -- All the Democratic candidates for president have warned Florida's Democratic Party against holding a "straw poll" of candidate popularity at a state convention in December -- threatening to stay away if the contest goes on.
This could either scuttle state-party hopes for an early and high-stakes presidential contest in Florida or cause an unseemly showdown.
"Do you really believe that all the top-tier candidates are going to boycott the convention if there is a straw poll?" state Democratic Party Chairman Scott Maddox said Wednesday night after fielding a warning from candidates and the national party. "Put a tooth on your pillow tonight and see if you get a dollar tomorrow."
