Anti-terror officer assassinated in Kirkuk

IRBIL, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- A group of unknown gunmen on Tuesday assassinated an officer working in the Anti-Terror Office in Kirkuk, northern Iraq.

A Kirkuk Police source said that Major Fakher Abdallah and his companion were assassinated when gunmen showered their vehicle with bullets, noting that the attackers fled the site.

Major Fakher is the sixth official in the Anti-Terror Office in Kirkuk to be assassinated.

In a separate incident, a bomb was detonated on Tuesday targeting a joint convoy of US forces and Iraqi Police in the city of Kirkuk, said police sources.
