White Lawmaker Likens Black Colleagues, KKK
By MATT GOURAS, Associated Press Writer 41 minutes ago
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A white Tennessee lawmaker lamenting his exclusion from the state's Black Legislative Caucus claimed Tuesday the group was less accommodating that even the Ku Klux Klan.

"My understanding is that the KKK doesn't even ban members by race," said Rep. Stacey Campfield, adding that the KKK "has less racist bylaws" than the black lawmakers' group.

The freshman Republican from Knoxville was rebuffed earlier this year when he asked for the Black Caucus' bylaws and inquired about joining. There are 18 black state lawmakers in Tennessee.

Caucus chairman Rep. Johnny Shaw, a Democrat, dismissed Campfield's request and called him a "strange guy" who was simply interested in stirring up trouble.

The black caucus and me

Fox News has called me for a possible national feature interview on a story that ran
today.

I woke up this morning to front-page news of how I had asked for the
bylaws of a state funded organization and was denied them. Actually,
it's an old story.

Back in the spring, I had asked the leader of the black caucus, Johnny
Shaw, for a copy of the bylaws. Johnny said he wanted to see a copy of
the Republican Caucus bylaws first. I agreed and had a copy sent to
him in less than 10 minutes.

When my assistant returned from dropping them off, she notified me that
Shaw did not want to give me a copy of the bylaws. I called Johnny
Shaw back and he said unless I had a court order or attorney general's
opinion, he was not going to give me anything.

Considered minorities? Well, yes, I guess you could consider the richest 2% of the country a minority...

Good to know that this guy's got absolutely no chance of getting into the federal government. At least not as a congressman.

13. Where does he go to get that nose sharpened? Those lips tightened?

It's true: he looks like a complete @$$#0#&. He's got that Zell thing going on. Not a trace of character on his weak face.

15. Absolutely
You can tell just by looking at him he is the kind of person who would judge someone not on the content of their character, but on something as meaningless as the color of their skin or what their face looked like. You are so right, this picture proves he has no character and it is not surprising he is a repug. Just more evidence that we are better than them.

16. Character DOES show in faces. What's the point of having intelligence
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 11:16 AM by Judi Lynn
if you're not supposed to engage it?

People who assume they can safely cover lives of deceit and malice and no one will know what kind of people they are, are surely dreaming. Attitudes DO SHOW on faces. Why are they called "expressions," if they express nothing?

Anyone who has gained any life experience at all, who has any knowledge of their own inner workings can recognize emotional dispositions of other people.

It's sheer conceit and ignorance leading people to assume otherwise. Life has some big surprises in store for you.

Are you suggesting there is random coincidence between facial expressions and inner workings? I don't think so.

On edit: Why do you think poker players often stare at each others faces? What are they staring at? I personally think it's rude, but they are READING their opponents.

17. I agree
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 12:31 PM by 2DleftofU
I am sure that, if he had led a better life, his lips and nose would would not be sharp and tight. I fact, I would bet that at least one of his parents was evil as well and had a sharp nose and/or tight lips.

As for his expression, I have no idea what you are talking about. Your first posting made no mention of expression, only his features and how those features showed a lack of character and that he was a "complete @$$#0#&." But you are right, apparently I do have a lot to learn; at least about judging people based on their looks.

26. Not only offensive, but dead wrong...
"My understanding is that the KKK doesn't even ban members by race," said Rep. Stacey Campfield, adding that the KKK "has less racist bylaws" than the black lawmakers' group.

Many years ago, I found a Klan newspaper stuck in among the weekly classified-ad circular racks outside a local diner (likely culprit -- the guy pulling out of the parking lot as I entered, whose car was festooned with "God, Guns, and Guts: What Made America Great" stickers :eyes: ). At any rate, I helped clean out the place by taking the Klan Klaxon, or whatever it was called, to be shredded and its residue recycled. Before doing so, however, I took a quick look at it, and discovered that the requirements for Klan membership forbade any blacks, Jews, or Mexicans from joining. (The irony, as I noted, was that I could not join the KKK since I'm half-Jewish, but my Latina wife could, since she's Colombian and they only thought of banning Mexicans. ;-) )
