FEMA Under Fire Again for Rita Effort
http://apnews.excite.com/article/20050928/D8CTG2880.html

<SNIP>
HOUSTON (AP) - Saying they were caught off-guard by the number of people in need, FEMA officials closed a relief center early on Wednesday after some of the hundreds of hurricane victims in line began fainting in triple-digit heat.

The midday closing of the Houston disaster relief center came as officials in areas hit hardest by Hurricane Rita criticized FEMA's response to the storm, with one calling for a commission to examine the emergency response.

Across southeastern Texas, the Federal Emergency Management Agency delivered ice, water and packaged meals to residents who rode out last week's hurricane, which blew ashore at Sabine Pass in East Texas early Saturday.

But the agency was not ready for the roughly 1,500 people displaced by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina who sought help at the Houston center when it reopened Wednesday.

1. Hmmm....let's see: more people than thought need help, so
close center.

How about EXPANDING the center to help the GREATER number of victims?

Boy, am I not cut out to be a FEMA administrator.....

2. You've never been an Arabian horse judge manager have you?
If you had been, you'd see the logic in this.

:sarcasm:

3. Yeah, there is a logic here. The greater the need, the lesser the effort.
Hey, this logic explains the original Katrina nonresponse!

5. Hey! (hay?) It's not the horses' fault!
You're giving horse shows a bad name. Even they thought Brownie was "f**king disaster."

11. Hmmm-Arabian horses, by chance are saudis involved in that?
OK- dumb comment, but seriously...do a lot of Arabian horses come from (or are they connected to) Saudi at that level of *primo horses*
(I don't know a thing about horse breeding lol)

Guess my point is...was "brownie" some other Saudi connected bush tool? (read connected to bin laden group et al?)

7. We knew this here at DU -- how many LBN stories have been posted...
about the on-the-ground failure of FEMA once again, and the falsity of the p.r. claim that the Bushies learned from Katrina, and did better with Rita?

12. It has even been on cable over the last few days
Not in your face of course...but if you read between the lines of what they didn't report, it was there for the watching.

8. It takes more than promises and a pile of money to fix what
has been systematically destroyed over the last four years. FEMA's problem is Bush* and all the repukes who have stripped it bare. Its performance will not improve until repukes are forced out of office.

10. It was feared that a Category 5 Rita would hit Galveston and Houston
That would've increased the number of people in need exponentially and now FEMA is babbling that it didn't anticipate the low number that exists today? Uh huh. Gee, FEMA, now pull the other leg, would ya? :eyes:
