Offense: Receipt of a stolen motor vehicle that had been transported in interstate commerce; 18 U.S.C. 2313.
Sentence: Aug. 22, 1989; Western District of Arkansas; three years probation and a $5,000 fine.

-- Morris F. Cranmer, Jr., Little Rock, Ark.
Offense: Making materially false statements to a federally-insured institution; 18 U.S.C. 1014.
Sentence: March 30, 1988; Eastern District of Arkansas; Nine months incarceration in a community correctional facility, with the condition that he work for the Arkansas Department of Health.

Jonathan David Morris wrote a piece about different Jonathan David Morris' out there which got me thinking about writing something on all the "Adam Graham's" out there.

This person at Democratic Underground caught Adam Wade Graham, but there's a lot more and several writers. Consider some of the ones I found:

Adam Graham of the Detroit News, looks like from his picture that he just rolled his face in newsprint. The guy gets a lot more headlines than me, plus he gets paid. On the other hand, he's 2 years older.

Adam Graham was also an Assistant Location Manager for the movie "Soul Survivors".

Adam Graham-Silverman is a left wing writer whose stuff has appeared in New Republic. Another paid journalist. Grrr.

Adam Graham is a highly rated teacher in Silver Springs, Maryland.

Adam Graham reviewed a couple books on Amazon-oops, that was me.

Adam Graham wrote a paper at the University of Texas in favor of the Iraq War.

Waste chemicals from the Vertac Chemical Corporation in Jacksonville, Arkansas--dibenzodioxins, dibenzofurans, chlorophenols, solvents, and herbicides, including Agent Orange-- were stored on-site in landfills and approximately 28,500 barrels. A high-temperature hazardous waste incinerator was built, tested, and operated on-site to destroy these wastes. Nearby residents were concerned about exposure to chemicals from the site and how their health would be affected by the incinerator operations.

To respond to these concerns, a biologic-indicators-of- exposure study (n=180) compared blood and urine levels of dioxin-like compounds in residents living adjacent to the site (target area) for >15 years (long-term) or <15 years (short-term), and in controls living 25 miles away (comparison area). Levels were compared pre-, mid-, and post-incineration. A health-outcomes survey (n=600) also compared cross-sectional prevalence of adverse health outcomes in the target area.

Serum levels of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (p=0.0032) and urine levels of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (p=0.0372) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (p=0.0268) were higher (pre-incineration and adjusted for age, sex, and race) in long-term target area residents than in controls. These findings suggested greater exposure to dioxin-like compounds (pre-incineration) of long-term residents living near the site. No significant pattern of self-reported adverse health outcomes was detected among different study groups. However, among 128 survey respondents who also had blood and urine testing, a positive association was found between total dioxin equivalent (TEQ) and self-reported occurrence of diabetes mellitus. Case-ascertainment and validation of this relationship are in progress. Additional findings, such as blood and urine levels of dioxin-like compounds at mid-term incineration of on-site wastes, have been analyzed and will be discussed following peer review mandated by Superfund.

"Then Greenpeace chemist Pat Costner of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, sent a Freedom of Information Act request for the data and let it be known that she would be providing an independent analysis of the findings. With that, the EPA-funded researchers sharpened their pencils and examined their data again. A month later they announced they had discovered that their first conclusion was false; now they said dioxin levels in the blood of families living near the incinerator had gone up, not down. It turned out that the principle researcher, Dr. Morris Cranmer, had done his arithmetic wrong and ATSDR's peer review panel of "dioxin experts" had failed to notice the huge mistake. <3>

Pat Costner's 28-page analysis, published this month, leaves the Cranmer study in tatters. <4> For example, the incinerator had been burning for 8 months before the "pre-burn" blood samples were taken--and these were probably the "dirtiest" 8 months of burning because the incinerator was new and the company had never operated an incinerator before. The "control" group was selected from the town of Mabelvale, only 25 miles from Jacksonville. EPA says air pollution from an incinerator travels at least 50 kilometers (31 miles) --so the "control" group was almost certainly exposed to dioxin from the Jacksonville incinerator. In addition, there are several other incinerators that pollute Mabelvale with dioxin--one of them operated by EPA itself in Jefferson, Arkansas. A worse "control group" could not have been found."
Furthermore, the selection of the study group itself biased the study's results. Youngsters under 18 and people over 65 were excluded --the very people most likely to spend time at home and be most affected by the Jacksonville incinerator. People who had elevated levels of dioxin in their blood to begin with were excluded; these were the people who had been most-exposed by the site in the past and therefore would be most likely to be impacted by the incinerator, which was built directly on the old site.

In sum, the Cranmer study seems to have been DESIGNED to reach false or misleading conclusions. Dr. Cranmer was well-qualified for conducting such a study. In 1988 had been convicted by a federal judge of bilking the federal government out of $9.5 million dollars. He appealed his conviction and lost. While he was serving his sentence of "community service" he was hired to do the Jacksonville study. <2>

Costner offers many additional criticisms of the Cranmer study. And she shows that the data reveal a dioxin increase of 22% in the blood of the Jacksonville residents who participated in the study.

Despite these remarkable revelations, EPA today is still insisting in public that burning dioxin-contaminated wastes in residential neighborhoods is entirely safe, and is good public policy, pointing to Jacksonville and the Cranmer study as evidence. Today EPA is promoting dioxin burns in Times Beach, Missouri, in Holbrook, Massachusetts, at the Crab Orchard site in southern Illinois, and at other sites around the country.

What could possibly be motivating this $7 billion-per-year bungling behemoth? Why in the world is EPA eager to burn powerful poisons, releasing the residuals directly into neighborhoods where families live? If readers can suggest possible EPA motives, we'd be pleased to hear them. We are perplexed.

Busts for LSD posession with intent to distribute more often than not involve blotter... sheets soaked in liquid acid, then divided into small square doses. A typical hit is actually a relatively small dosage.

Unfortunately, the cops weigh the paper, not the actual amount of drug that has been absorbed by the paper. The weight of LSD they claim to have confiscated is actually grossly inflated, since the paper FAR outweighs the drug content.

LSD posession sentences can be horridly unfair.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush granted pardons Wednesday to 14 people, including a member of the mineworkers union who was convicted for his role in bombings at a West Virginia coal mine, a counterfeiter and a bootlegger.

Jesse Ray Harvey of Scarbro, W.Va., was given a 25-month sentence in 1990 after his conviction for using explosives to damage Milburn Colliery. The mine had been the target of a long strike by about 45 members of a United Mine Workers local.

Bush has issued 60 pardons and sentence commutations during 56 months in office.
