Pataki pulls Ground Zero museum
Gov. George Pataki on Wednesday ousted a proposed freedom museum from its site at ground zero, declaring that the International Freedom Center has generated "too much opposition, too much controversy" to remain.

The decision follows months of acrimony over the Freedom Center, with furious families and politicians saying that the museum would dishonor the memory of the 2,749 people who died at the World Trade Center.

We must move forward with our first priority, the creation of an inspiring memorial to pay tribute to our lost loved ones and tell their stories to the world," Pataki said in a statemen

5. International Freedom Center
In the heart of the most warmongering nation on the face of the Earth, and the largest military Empire that has ever existed.

Somethings are just so freaking absurd that I just feel like pulling my hair out.

But yeah, good, he realized it's stupid. It's just like the Freedom Fries things...right-wingers lose all sense of reality, think stupid ideas like this center or melting down Saddam Hussein's statue to use the metal in a new 9/11 building, and then have to recant them when people think it goes a little to far.

6. The New York Sun was in favor of the Int'l. Freedom Center.
That's the same paper that gave Bolton a rave review.

Freedom museum for 9/11 abandoned

Controversial plans to build a museum celebrating the theme of freedom on the site of the World Trade Center in New York have been abandoned.

New York Governor George Pataki said there was "too much opposition, too much controversy" over the proposal. Some families of those killed in the 11th September 2001 attacks opposed the International Freedom Center (IFC).

They were concerned that it would commemorate too many other events, and might overshadow a 9/11 memorial. "Today there remains too much opposition, too much controversy, over the programming of the IFC and we must move forward with our first priority, the creation of an inspiring memorial to pay tribute to our lost loved ones and tell their stories to the world," Mr Pataki said in a statement.

Focus 'too wide'

The IFC was conceived as "a celebration of freedom and tolerance", and would have featured exhibits on Martin Luther King Jr, and documents like the Declaration of Independence and the South African constitution. It would have occupied an eight-storey building in the corner of the Ground Zero site.

11. Considering the Administration used 9/11
... to limit freedoms and exascerbate intolerance, I'd think a monument to freedom and tolerance would be hypocritical in the first place ...

JMHO.
