Ensign to assess pet rescues in Louisiana
WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., left this morning to spend most of the day in Louisiana to assess the effort to rescue pets in the hurricane-devastated Gulf Coast region.

Ensign planned to meet with Vice Adm. Thad Allen of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, who is leading the agency's relief effort. The senator also planned to meet with Michael Groves, dean of Louisiana State University's School of Veterinary Medicine, and LSU Chancellor Sean O'Keefe.

"As a veterinarian, I want to make sure the pet rescue efforts are being well coordinated for the sake of the people in that region as well as the animals," Ensign said.

7. John, dear, it's time to go back to Vegas and finish the career
you started and then dropped like a used condom. The senate doesn't need you, and neither does America.

Good news on the "vets in the senate" front, though. A veterinarian in MN (Dr. Ford Bell) is running for the US senate as a DEMOCRAT. He is the grandson of the founder of General Mills (rich) but has a major social conscience. He is a board-certified veterinary oncologist, IIRC, and a university professor. GO DOC BELL!!!!!!!!!!

9. I'm glad he is
putting up a facade of caring about the animal victims, but it does seem like too little too late. I guess, seeing that they have gotten such little attention and such ill treatment that perhaps its possible he may help in some way. Its not easy to give a rethug any credit for anything, but I haven't exactly seen ANY concern given to this issue from anyone else in power.
