Reid slams Bush over Iraq

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid jabbed at President Bush over Iraq Wednesday, saying Bush had no real strategy for success against the continuing insurgency.

"Our troops and the American people need the president to pay more than just lip service to a strategy for the war in Iraq, they need him to lay out what that strategy is with clear markers by which success c an be measured," the Nevada Democrat said.

"Despite the presence of U.S. troops in Iraq for more than three years, President Bush has failed to lay out what his strategy is, politically and militarily, in order to achieve the progress needed to bring our troops home,"

Reid's statement was issued shortly after Bush appeared at the White House with top U.S. military commanders in the Iraq war. Gen. John Abizaid, commander of U.S. Central Command, and Gen. George Casey, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, had just briefed Bush on Iraq before they were to go to Capitol Hill to speak with lawmakers.

If Reid called for bringing troops home, that would not bring ONE. TROOP. HOME.

Understand? We don't influence what is happening in Iraq. Only Bush and a handful of close advisors have any control over the policy. They are not looking for advice and they will not listen to advice, they never have.

Bush is going to keep the troops in Iraq until he is forced to withdraw them in defeat. And I don't want the Dems to offering to be a partner in defeat by calling for a withdrawal. Reid is right, we have to be demanding a victory strategy from Bush. He doesn't have one, and when he fails ultimately we will be in a position to crush him.

Again, it'll never happen, but there are ways to stop this maddness.

should really consist of more than waiting for Bush to fail. While history may not treat Bush well for his misguided Iraq war, Dems will not be off the hook, either.

Clinton lambastes Bush

Washington - Former US president Bill Clinton on Sunday sharply criticised George W Bush for the Iraq War and the handling of Hurricane Katrina and voiced alarm at the swelling US budget deficit.

Breaking with tradition under which US presidents mute criticisms of their successors, Clinton said the Bush administration had decided to invade Iraq "virtually alone and before UN inspections were completed, with no real urgency, no evidence there were weapons of mass destruction".

The Iraq war diverted US attention from the war on terrorism "and undermined the support that we might have had," Bush said in an interview with an ABC's "This Week" programme.

Clinton said there had been a "heroic but so far unsuccessful" effort to put together an constitution that would be universally supported in Iraq.

He can't slam anyone. He is so milquetoast and bland to the point that a glass of water has more substance. When Franken asked him about the Frist's investigation, he did the usual 'I like him as a person bullsh*t. Until he is replaced, I have no hope for the Democratic party returning to power.
