Ensign says National Guard will aid animal rescue crews
WASHINGTON -- The National Guard will begin escorting animal rescue crews into abandoned homes to retrieve pets left behind by people who evacuated from Gulf Coast hurricanes, Sen. John Ensign said Wednesday after returning from the region.

The Nevada Republican, a licensed veterinarian, said he secured the arrangement while visiting Louisiana and meeting with rescue leaders.

Coast Guard Vice Admiral Thad Allen, head of the hurricane recovery efforts, plans to name a point person this week to coordinate animal rescue efforts, Ensign said.

"There has not been somebody to coordinate the effort to go in and get the animals," he said.

2. Republicans kill dogs.
How do I know? I saw the pictures of New Orleans. Nice of them to be so caring now. Thousands of beloved pets are dead. Animals who did nothing but trust us.

I will never forgive them for New Orleans.

I will never forgive them for their naked heartlessness.

4. Too bad they didn't do this when more pets were still alive
.. I am glad they are doing it NOW, but ....

It amazes me how a nation that claims to LOVE its furry pals and spends BILLIONS on advertising goodies for them, and spends tons of cash on veterinary services and other accoutrements for them...could treat them so callously when they were in such danger and so helpless.

I wish decades of nightmares of being chased by all those sweet pets who perished to all the people who COULD have helped them, and chose not to
